There's really stuff you can't buy, out of print albums. And if you can, Why give some reseller $80 for it? How does that benefit the band in any way?

Yeah I used to have a strict 'no illegal downloading ever' policy but some of these OOP albums are outrageously expensive and don't go to the band so I lightened up a bit.

Most money doesn't go to the band, I know this wasn't your point but most money goes to the label and that's just as important if not more important.

My friend called me (woke me up out of my sleep) because her boyfriend went to Japan with some chick that she hasnt met for two weeks. Now one of my best friends and I have been best friend since 3rd grade, and she's been dating this dude since high school. We actually had a huge falling out in high school because I told her he lies a lot and is untrustworthy. I'm actually pretty preceptive and even my students know not to mess with me with their goddamn stories because I'll make those little motherfuckers tremble. I call them out on it, but in this case I guess it wasn't my place to. But I did and she got all pissy with me and didn't talk to me for like a year (this was like 6 or 7 years ago). Now... she comes to me with this story. There has been others, but this one is just blatant. There comes a time where you have to ask yourself are you being stupid. If my boyfriend ever pulls some stunt like that.... Going to Japan for two weeks, telling me not to get a ticket because "it's for work" then BAM I find out he's not actually there for work, and he went with some other girl without telling me? It's a good thing I'm not wrapped up too tight because it only attracts people who are authentic.

I hate having to watch what I have to say with her and honestly she knows me well enough to know what I'm thinking. But that's just fucked up. Also, it's late and I should get back to sleep.

I download music because I simply don't care. I have literally no moral qualms. I don't do it often, but I do.

I still buy a ton and stream often too.

But anti-downloaders can be some of the most pretentious, self-righteous buggers on the planet and really I don't take them seriously.

I used to be an annoying anti-downloader, now I'm just an anti-downloading person in my private life and don't care what other people choose to do.

People that want to control the actions of others in general are trash if you ask me. Don't force your moral values on others, live by example but leave people alone.

I mean, I know it's technically stealing but meh. I like listening to music too much and sometimes I just want to do things even if it's "technically stealing".

I do about half the time lmao.

The other half of my money goes towards food, booze, and the occasional bit of pot.

I think most money is in merch & touring for bands now anyway. I like the feeling of buying an album off a band directly though.

Yeah most people can never support all the artists they'd like to, but I'm an "anti-downloader" to the extent that I think people that literally haven't paid a cent towards their favorite bands and then complain about "Oh it's so hard to find good music" are shit. These days I mostly listen to OOP stuff anyways so it doesn't really make a difference I guess.

Well, money made from album sales help the labels releasing the music. I want to support Hells Headbangers or Heavy Chains Records just as much as I want to support the bands on their roster.

Something where I have full control except for the creative side (ie: Everyone contributes their parts and we all come to agreement, but marketing, finances etc are completely controlled by me)

See my ideal band would be the opposite. Creatively controlled entirely by me, but managed by someone else.

Kind of an egomaniac when it comes to my writing (I have four albums of unrecorded black metal material, but I haven't moved forward because I can't find anyone who wants to play without fucking around with the material). Either play what I write or gtfo.
