Are you sure? My mom's allergic to a lot of things that I'm not. And I have a much higher tolerance for cigarette smoke than my father. And my friend is deathly allergic to peanuts, whereas no one else in his family is or ever has been. And he sure didn't *learn* to be allergic to peanuts.

This is simply speculation/observation. A nice health article or summat will set me straight. I still don't believe that a person is limited or given set parameters from birth or their life. More like a framework or guidelines.

Weve already had this argument on determinism, genetics, etc. Hell the same people posted pretty much the same ideas. I say we wait for science to either figure it out- or fail to find a connection.

On a kind of related topic, I read a couple of days ago this interesting fact: that neither scientists nor mathematicians are able to prove that randomness is possible. A view is growing that the classical divisions of phenomena into "ordered" and "disordered" categories may be wrong, and that in fact, disordered or "random" events are simply caused by an order too subtle to be observed in that event. This, by the way, is the belief that I arrived at which eventually got me to question "free will"; even if it's wrong, it's nice to know that I've been wrong in the same way as several PhD's

There's a book...I think it's called Randomness, and it quite possibly addresses this in some detail. My dad read it.

I never believed that 'random' was anything more than a word used to describe events that we are not yet advanced enough to understand/put in the "ordered" category.

Well Lord667, i am very glad you mentioned this. I had become somewhat despondent regarding my rather classical humanist views on free will. Perhaps they are still just as truthful as before.

They are undoubtedly just as truthful as they've ever been; exactly how truthful that is, is a whole other debate

I do believe that homosexuality is genetic. It's just odd that humans are the only species where it seems to occur.

I've heard quite a few storied about homosexuality in animals.

EDIT: Beaten to it... d'oh :p
