What are some of your favorite recent productions?

More recent(ish) mixes I have been digging lately:

Gojira - The Way Of All Flesh (Logan Mader)
Behemoth - Evangelion (Colin Richardson)
Misery Signals - Controller (Devin Townsend)
Hate - Erebos (Wojciech Wiesławski - I think?)
Opeth - Watershed (Jens Bogren)
Beneath The Massacre - Marée Noire (Chris Donaldson)
Dimmu Borgir - Abrahadabra (Andy Sneap)
Jeff Loomis - Zero Order Phase (Neil Kernon)

lately:
Mercenary - Metamorphosis (Hansen)
even if I didn't like the mix at the first impression, it really grew on me.
Also loving the music

obsidion conspiracy too, off the top of my head...didn't really get to check out a lot of CD's over the past year I think

TesseracT- One
LTA- Far Q
Acacia Strain - Wormwood

LTA's whole album has so many vibes and I think the production captures it perfectly. Also I'm not Bulimic has one of my favourite choruses.

Let me add a few...

Accept - Blood Of The Nations
Soilwork - The Panic Broadcast(those drums!!)
KYPCK - Nizhe

WHAT

That cold, emotionless guitar sound adds such a haunting atmosphere to the songs, and that grinding bass is like a chainsaw cutting through a decomposed cow. AND THE PUNCH, damn it! That snare smacks your face like a bitch in heat.

Haha! I don't know what you've been listening to it on, man, but those qualities don't exist when hearing it here!

All I hear is mud, painful flat mids, lack of front-to-back dimension, and a snare that sounds like closing my plastic lunch box.

But hey, that's the great thing about this game. People's preferences are so out of whack with each other!

EDIT: Come to think of it, if you want to hear a death metal CD where those qualities actually exist in the mix... check out Plec's work on Miseration's 'The Mirroring Shadow' :D

The Mirroring Shadow is really bright, loud, and harsh. I really like the way The Fathomless Mastery sounds...i guess everyone does have different preferences.

Will do man. But I can't believe you don't like TFM. I guess I can understand where you are coming from, but I feel that the production on TMF gels perfectly with the awesome music to create something more than just the frequency content. My love for the album probably makes me seriously biased though!

Not too keen on most of Bloodbath's music but gonna have to add my support for TMF sounding amazing!!

its not a recent production, but in terms of realism (like a real band playing together)
and some of the greatest guitar tones i have heard is still limp bizkits csathfw.
compare that snare to any modern metal production.. everything now has a static attack with a static sustain
and (to me) zero expression. but damn this snare (i think an ocdp 40 ply vented) and the room is really inspiring.

well for recent productions i mainly reference nickelbacks dark horse, gojira twoaf and the latest stone sour (altough i dont like the guitars that much.)
for punk i really like the latest rise against.
