What will be the next big thing in metal?

such a silly discussion.

and anyone who ever liked metal (or any other kind of music) and stopped listening to it to listen exclusively to pop (or any other kind of music), is just as trendy and lame as the shit they are supposedly "bucking".

concern yourselves with bucking trends if you like..i concern myself with listening to music i like. that includes healthy doses of good pop, metal, jazz, classical, and rock. i couldn't imagine dropping one style altogether, when there are clearly awesome albums in each genre, just to focus on another one any more than i could imagine to stop eating chicken to only eat fish.

if there isn't one more good metal album ever made, i will still be listening to the genre for the rest of my life, because there are already so many great classic albums that i love. so what, you stop listening to them and listen only to pop? what the hell is that? did you ever really like them? are you a teenager that hasn't figured out what he really likes yet? why not just add pop to your repertoire? i don't get some people... i've never had much trouble deciding what i like, and once i like it, i always like it. may get burnt a bit from over-listening, but then i just lay off for a bit... doesn't mean i never listen again.

you guys are screwy. :loco:

I am hoping more anthems, trad metal and bands you can identify with.

Bands these days tend to be one mastermind and hired guns.

This is true of 90% of the music I listen to and really love.

I pref the who or the beatles aproach. Where every musician mucks in sonically.

Modern metal with the one man focal point usually means the other instruments are an afterthought and it leads to a bland dynamic.

It is why there are "classic" lineup eras of Death, Annihilator, Megadeth etc. Because there is more a band dynamic when mr big potatoe is surrounded by people who get it, rather than just people who can play it.

Was it really much different "back in the days"?

Most bands I can think of always had one or two "masterminds" and the rest was more or less replaceable. Of course there are exceptions, but these exceptions are still out there.

I think the whole "band" has to have more attention for it to grab us in the future. Sansamp, replacement drums is heaven for the masterminds (or unlimited cash to hire whoever you want is often even worse). And we all know what happens when control freaks get their way 100%.

Take Prince. I bought his most recent album. What a pile of shit. His old band were half the musicians in his new group, but the magic is lost.

The police were amazing, then Sting went solo and went up his own arse. These masterminds need people who love the craft of the game next to them.

I think an honest collection of musicians, playing something "Joe Reamp" can't recreate is the future.

Songs, solos, attitude has to come back.

Now every musician can record themselves for next to nothing. So now that everyone can record, where is the amazing music?

A Swirl between Meshuggah and Soilwork is where metal SHOULD go in my opinion. Pretty much super ass kicking melodic riffs all in odd time signatures! SUPER EPIC!

HOWEVER

From the looks of it, metal in America has gone to SUICIDE SILIENCE/JFAC/WHITECHAPEL type of shit. The real question is WHEN WILL THIS BULLSHIT DIE OUT?

Once that happens and we clear the shit out of the water, only then will something thats actually musically awesome take over. Untill then enjoy diminished Chugging and high screams for the next 5 years.

I hope that the direction of heavy music will be guided by dedicated, inspired musical genius. People making well constructed, innovative music that matters to them. I don't give a damn what sub-genre

Something made with superior shredder 3.0 withing steinberg metal generator using guitar hero type controllers. Most metalheads will be wearing a tutu, a dirt stach and a colored mullet.
