Which Nordic country do you feel produced the most quality metal?

Of the 5 Nordic countries, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, which one of those five countries you feel produced the most and best quality metal music in general?

Its interesting to note how Norway produced a massive amount of black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Mayhem, etc while Sweden produced a lot of death metal bands (At the Gates, Entombed, Arch Enemy) while Finland produced more melodic metal bands (Children of Bodom, Norther, Ensiferum) and quite a few power metal bands (Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica). So its clear that there is a visible distinction of metal between the three largest Nordic countries.

They're pretty much all Black Metal and Melo Death, but it's just a vote so see which country produced the best quality bands. It doesn't necessarily have to do with the genre.

Going with Sweden, but Denmark comes close on the basis of its biggest names + Artillery & Invocator alone for me.

They're all Black Metal. They're being compared by countries.

Swedish bands tend to be more polished in terms of musicianship, composition and production. This isn't always a good thing, but it is a pretty consistent difference.

I would go with Sweden overall, as it has a substantial amount of quality death metal, obviously plenty of melodic death metal, and a fair bit of excellent black, doom, and power metal.

I do find that there's a lot of Swedish thrash trying to basically sound like a watered-down Arch Enemy, which is just not a good idea at all.

Probably Norway overall for the black metal scene alone, but Sweden and Finland aren't far behind between Bathory, Beherit, At The Gates, Candlemass, Skepticism, Demilich, etc. etc....

Finland because of Demigod, Demilich, Rippikoulu, Convulse, Depravity, Amorphis, Adramelech, Purtenance, Slugathor, and the other old school Finnish DM bands.

Bathory for black metal and some viking metal
Meshuggah for djent and progressive shit
At The Gates for melodic death metal
Yngwie Malmsteen for shred metal and neo-classical metal (and early power metal)
Opeth for progressive death metal
Amon Amarth for viking metal
Candlemass for doom metal
Jens Johansson for power metal when he joined stratovarius. He helped develop the signature power metal sound in which actually originated from when he was in Yngwie Malmsteen's band

I don't listen to much from Denmark or Iceland so I can't comment on that, but other than that you are 100 percent correct about this.

All of these countries produce some incredible music, but it's a close tie between Finland and Sweden for me.
