Well personally I much prefer someone giving reasons for disliking something than just saying "this is gay", even if I disagree with those reasons. I think where it goes too far is when he denigrates the musicians' motivations themselves and their fans. There are plenty of more offensive bands out there. I think the ridiculous amount of time Jari is spending on recording the new album alone testifies as to his commitment.

I can not believe you just grouped circus maximus in with the other 4 bands, which are not even in the same category
and I would definitely say that Circus Maximus is in no way a departure from what constitutes quality within the genre of PROGRESSIVE METAL.
Reading this thread I also feel that I might actually fall on the floor and die if I ever get to read your opinion on Vivaldi.
Progressive Metal as an established genre itself represents a departure from what makes metal good for me. And I have high opinions of Vivaldi and several other classical composers. Metal is not the only thing that I listen to. But I find your attempt to denigrate me based on your assumption that I have unrefined tastes in music by resorting to citing classical music as a superior artform on a metal forum amusing, and I hope you try to do it again in the future.
having a degree in classical composition does not make someone an unskilled composer, that's crazy talk.
For the record I don't even like Wintersun.
It sure as hell doesn't automatically make one a skilled composer either. In fact, that is the whole point. A lot of people seem to only look for skilled musicians when they listen to music, whereas I look for skilled songwriters. A lot of the bands that I listen to are actually relatively mediocre as musicians, but the songwriting prowess is what makes them great.
Dodens has been posting here for a while so I don't know why people are so shocked at his posts. Some of the members on this forum could use some major testicular growth.
I'm also not the only one to post like this. And come on, I said in my post that the music makes me want to punch my testicles off. Who is honestly stupid enough to read that line and think that my entire post was completely straight-faced? I, and many other people, like to go over the top every once in a while for their personal amusement and the amusement of others. Even people who like the band should be able to laugh at it, in my opinion.
I don't post or even read this forum ever, the only forum here I visit is the Sneap forum, and I've just been reminded why.
It's stupid to deny that the man is talented, perhaps he doesn't have the death-metal-elitest brand of talent but hes certainly very good at composing.
He is not "certainly very good at composing." He's very good at playing his instruments and constructing
parts of songs, but the songs themselves often come out as sounding incoherent. And frankly the parts themselves don't interest me very much either.
I don't care what Matt thinks of my musical opinions. It won't change what I do or don't like. What honestly bothers me is that he purports not to be saying anything against the people who have different musical opinions than himself, but it is inherently implied in posts like the one he made in this thread. Perhaps he should better articulate his feelings.

Nothing is "inherently implied" in my post except the fact that Wintersun doesn't appeal to me at all and in fact I don't even think they do a very good job at what they have set out to do. Perhaps you should better articulate your comprehension skills, or possibly not read everything I say with an immense bias, because I wasn't attacking anybody, and your accusations are getting boring.
How can someone who enjoys Wintersun not get "butt hurt" by this? It's a fucking ridiculous diatribe of accusations and condemnations. I'm sorry if some people feel I should grow some bigger testicles, but I think I deserved my chance to object to his grandiloquent display.

You just said that you don't care what I think about your musical opinions, so why do you care about mine? Don't you think that's kind of stupid? We both recognize that we don't have much in common with respect to what we look for in music (or at least in metal music), so I'm finding it hard to believe why you are so bothered by my thoughts on Wintersun, which is a band that epitomizes the musical chasm between you and I. Say the same thing about Darkthrone and I wouldn't give a fuck because we're not even on the same wavelength with regards to metal. Maybe if we actually agreed on anything in metal aside from enjoying the sound of guitars, your opinions on the bands I listen to would affect me a bit more and vice versa, but given how completely differently we feel, it would just be in your best interest to not care what I think in addition to not caring what I think about what you think.
The point is that the fact that you felt obligated to "object" to my post, which itself was meant to be ridiculous, was rather silly to begin with.
