Shining has some nice solos in its repertoire but I can see your point. Solos in BM are not essential and are sometimes futile.

I think Drudkh featured some good solos on Blood on our Wells, such as here:

I've also never bothered much with Armored Saint. Thought March was good but I'm not sure I've ever heard anything else.

40 minutes is a great length for an album in my opinion. But that can only be a good criticism since it implies you wanted more.

It's around the length that most albums should be. Albums that push over 60 minutes are usually too long for their own good, which is unfortunately becoming far too commonplace.

I think the sweet spot for any album for the main genres is between 45-50 minutes. That's just my opinion. Nothing else bad about the album.

In regards to basic raw black metal, anything north of 30 minutes is usually sufficient. At that point I'm looking for another flavor.
