Anyone have any thoughts in the new A Forest of Stars? I have the special edition at the house but I haven’t had a chance to spin it yet.

Only listened to it once when it first came out but it didn't disappoint with the aggressive black avantgarde style. I believe the artwork that comes with that edition is supposed to be pretty sick, formatted like an old newspaper or something, so enjoy.

Digging Falls of Rauros - Vigilence Eternal at the moment. Rather warm, pastoral melodies but still BM, not post-y at all.

New Varathron album slays. I reckon even those who don't like the thin-ness of their early records will enjoy this. The Greek melodic sensibility is still there, but it's closer to Dissection territory in its overall style.

Stygian is incredible Untrodden Corridors of Hades is practically equal in terms of quality.

Yeah I haven't followed Varathron's work since Walpurgisnacht, so had suitably low expectations for this one.

This finally clicked for me a couple of weeks back and it's been utterly slaying me ever since. Pure barbaric savagery. Excluding I.N.R.I, obviously, it blows everything else Sarcófago did out of the water imo.

Is in general terms an enjoyable album. It lacks punch due the lightness of guitars, but the actual compositions are good. The track order could have been better and the intro utterly sucks.

Apologies, I guess I don't listen to enough black metal that I'm able to separate the cold and frigid bands from the less cold and less frigid bands, since majority of the genre sounds cold and frigid to me.
