I think my favorite bands with that vibe are Lunar Aurora and Paysage d'Hiver, and Blut Aus Nord on Ultima Thulee. There are some shitty wintry bands though, Imperial Chrystaline Entombment, for example.

there are shitty bands of every genre and I imagine "wintry" attracts a lot of try-hards and failures. I haven't listened to those bands you mentioned, will give them a try.

Putting Mort on my ignore list was the best choice I've made on this forum. I can't think of a single occasion when I was even mildly entertained by his posts.

Like right now, he probably just said something super douchey to make him look more knowledgeable on black metal. The bands he recommends never fail to disappoint.

MoRT isn't bad, but it's not surprising that black metal fans don't like it. It's more of a bizarre, meandering, dissonant blackened Godflesh worship kind of thing. It still feels very much like Blut aus Nord — or at least the warped, industrialized aspects of TWWTG taken to an extreme. So yeah, it's kind of only for people who appreciate that sort of thing.

Odinist is good, but as a whole not great. "The Cycle of Cycles" is an excellent track, though.
