I think SMRC is fucking amazing, the production actually aids it as well. One of my favourite albums ever, fuck all the haters.
SMRC is merely decent; it's too long and meandering.
This turn of events was to be expected.
They kinda remind me of Ved Buens Ende in that their music is too spaced out/drawn out beyond my merely humble comprehension.
In other words, by "structure" you mean music with hooks.
I've never been able to connect with SMRC or any Deathspell Omega for that matter. I think it's because the aspect of black metal that's always appealed to me the least is all the evilness and evil sounding stuff, and that seems to be their forte.
Perhaps, with something to grab on to.
Something symmetric and fluid.
Of this I have no doubt. I just feel an emotional distance from it and in the end its the emotional connection to the music that matters.Evilness aside, on the purely sonic front the band writes quality material
What can I add to that but the all-approving Viva la difference.I prefer my music asymmetric. Perfect reflexiveness in sound leads to redundancy, and artists who perform symmetric music usually feel the need to prove something.
