COB start writing new album

i didn't notice the hands under the ice either at first, cool detail!

@Joonas: On the poker cards thing, I don't know where you got that, may or may not be, although it's a bit obscure. I mean, I don't know if it's just that poker players know the story and others don't, but, could also be a reference to death/the reaper, as in "the reaper's (dead man) hand on you", but anyhow, would be a nice question to ask Alexi if given the chance.

Didn't notice the dead people and their hands under the ice either, that just made the artwork 10x times better. Sorry to go all Joonas on you but it's kinda cool and symbolic, if u think that it's all the ghosts of the people that have died at Lake Bodom.

Just noticed that too now u mentioned it. Yeah that is pretty sick ! So cool ! :hypno:

I dont want to get crucified here, but the song names are pretty lame :D except tracks 1,4,9. And Halo Of Dreams sounds gay as the usual symphonic metal shit. All titles seems to be caricatures of the great old songs. I cant find the epic and mystical themes from this one. However, It's not the albumcover or the songtitles which will make this album good. Hopefully the music will be interesting :) Im not gonna hate this album, Im sure its better than the one before. imo...

Whoa, that's one kickass cover :yow: I just hope that the music is as good and has the same kind of dark/heavy mood unlike the last few albums. Waiting for some song samples!

I really liked the album cover, a winter scene was definitely a good idea, and the reaper looked kinda beautiful and dangerous at the same time. Most of the song titles sounded good as well. Can't really form a picture about those song descriptions, but seems like some old influences, some thrashy stuff and a lot of anger. Soon there'll probably be more reviews, and hopefully not more than a mont before the single.

Halo of BLOOD, not dreams.
hahahahaha

Fucking awesome artwork. The northern lake and the victims of the lake. Now you guys got it! 10/10 from Joonas. This will lead to great things.

The Bodom song is called Bodom Blue Moon (The Second Coming). I think it implies to them returning to the past epicness.

“Halo Of Blood is the eighth studio album from Children Of Bodom and believe it or not but we still managed to keep it fresh and new while still maintaining the elements that make COB sound recognizable. Its got the fastest and the slowest song we ever made and lyrics wise there are themes we had never had before. Its 10 new songs of pure nordic metal and whether you enjoy it with a beer or a glass of water, I’m sure you will have a good time.”

Good thing cos I stopped drinking long ago and I want the music to be good enough to enjoy sober... I will probably go get a bottle of Lake Bodom water and drink it while listening to this CD for the first time.

What are the two cover songs? They are not mentioned?
From that sample we got months ago, I already identified what would be one of the covers:

The rest is still unknown apart from this:
"We will be doing our versions of songs by BANANARAMA and ROXETTE, and a track chosen for us by the readers of the Japanese magazine Burrn!" Alexi says."

Cruel Summer is a perfect Bodom song title to add for the song list thinking about the murder story. The song is also great and I'd probably accept it for an 11th track, it would leave an euphoric feeling after all the brutality and make you wanna cherish another spin... The title refers to the day before the murders... if there was a Children Of Bodom movie that song would be nice for the end credits music! :Spin:

Maybe they could use Cruel Summer for the live intro for this album's shows? Either that or something dark and atmospheric.

Always thought these cold keyboards and black guitars would suit a winter theme. These samples describe the artwork perfect. The keyboard is freezing like the wind here today, it's also mythical like the unexplained mystery of the lake, while the dark guitars describe the perilous danger, doom and fear... This artist is intelligent and has paid attention to exactly right things. The depressive feel of a sunless winter is present in the music. The lake and the death elements are symbolism that reflect in the feelings of the music.

1. Goes straight to the point without intro. Angry Bodom style neo-thrash but compared to couple of the latest albums surprisingly melodic. Slick solo.

Hmm, angry bodom neo-thrash... sounds like something from AYDY or Reckless. If it sounds like the good parts of Shovel than that's more than fine.

2. Start with spoken sample after which ton of bricks fall down. Heavy as a stone house and not any smoother. Song includes blast beat part and might be most death metalish – or at least angriest – Bodom in long time. One of the three best songs on the album.

I think the fact that angry is pointed out again is a very good sign, because that's something that's been missing lately. The first few albums were very aggressive and energetic, especially with vocals. Maybe they've got that kickass attitude back.[/quote]

3. Guitar melodies having hit potential. Guitar and keyboard are weirdly in-harmonic, that makes one think South of Heaven by Slayer (though it doesn't have keyboards). Vocals are without melody and expect the odd vibe song doesn't leave any recollections after first spin. Solos are pure gold as always.

Nothing better than hearing melodies having hit potential. Nobody's ever been able to replicate Alexi's style.

4. Very angry song. Same kind of weird vibe as in previous one, but scales creating guitar/keyboard contrast meet sweetly in unisono point.

Weird vibe kinda worries me a little bit, but I only look for a few good songs per record anyway. Weird vibe makes me think these songs will sound like Ugly.

5. Harrowing, yanking lead workout, technical and orchestral hits that are familiar from 90s Bodom.

Sounds like a tailor made Joonas song. Orchestral hits and driven by leads.

6. First song of the album having a riff that makes you want to have one man circle pit. Fastest song of the album, whiplaster-neckbreaker riffs and synth-staccato/orchestral hits having Warheart clarity. One of the three best songs on the album.

All this talk of aggression and orchestral hits make this album sound like the second coming of HATEBREEDER..

7. Weird Bodom western, time spent in States starts to make it appearance in the Alexi’s music. In Bodom framework song can be called almost ballad, but instead of sweet moments song is better fitted to running over cats with a road roller. Atmosphere is something like Metallica meets playing skills meets anxiety.

I don't even know what to make of that. Metallica meets anxiety sounds like Punch me I Bleed. Wouldn't mind something similar..

8. Good riff and angry song, spreads like flu but hurts more. Longest lead alternations. It’s weird that song maker lives most of the time in the sunny California but still makes their angriest album.

This guy is making it harder and harder to wait for this album. Normally aggressive music is a product of youthful ambition. If they somehow got it back that'd be a miracle.

9. Starts with traditional 666 riff and briskness of the song is close to thrash. And we also got Jau Jau. One of the three best songs on the album, maybe best one.

666 riff and best song of the album... fuck me!

10. Weird Humppa (humppa=Finnish music style) Punk song that limps weirdly. Verses pull and solos are like from other different tempo song. No recollection after first spin.

Doesn't sound like a serious song.

That artwork is like the part 4 of the 3 classics.

I like to think this way too. I hope the album is as great as the artwork, so I could worship it. I need another epic album like the old COB.

I still want that Slowdance On Nails title :/

It's a title that tastes electric on the tongue. Maybe it's been put on hold until the next album, as it didn't exactly describe any of these songs. Just like Roundtrip to Hell and Back was a great title but didn't really fit any Blooddrunk song except Hellhounds On My Trail and they thought that one was a better title... such a title as Roundtrip to Hell and Back promises a mind-blowing song and you can't just give it to any song. The song they gave it to doesn't deliver the drama of the title but it turns it to something awkwardly emotional instead.
