Deathspell Omega - Fas- Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum

There's nothing to get about this album, it's just as pretentious and shallow as the latest Blut Aus Nord/Tool/Meshuggah etc.

I'm listening for the third time now and I still don't get very much and have a feeling that I'm just scratching the surface. That's not very strange I guess, since this seems to be Kenose times three, and I'm only now starting to really appreciate Kenose's greatness. It sounds very promising though

It's not bad. There are some very good moments and some where it seems they are just trying too hard to put something original together. Some of it sounds very organic, others very mechanic. Some of the drumming bothers me in parts. I have to shit.

Agreed, Tool suck balls and Meshuggah can't count.

In directly linked sameness: pussy does not feel awesome on the shaft that is my rod.

I'm trying to figure this thing out. I know I don't care about it much...at least not yet. There are some flashes of brilliance, but they seem like they are trying to hard. At times I wonder if they are trying start some sort of discordant Black Metal math rock genre. :zombie:

It's certainly progressive.

I haven't given this release the attention it deserves yet, but from what I have heard, it's not a repeat of anything they've done before.

Isn't that the sign of progression? On one hand, none of us should have expected Circumspice pt2, but on the other, did DsO tilt the balance too far I wonder? Probably too soon to tell.

It's definitely eerie and awkward.

I think it's an album which deserves multiple listens and we should talk about it again in 6 months just to see if opinions have changed. Of course, we live in different times now where if an album doesn't grab you immediately it's likely going to be dropped for a new batch of downloaded crack.

I'll make the effort, however. My initial reactions to the new album tell me this could be the "OM" of 2008. Seems to me that both DsO and Negura are truly pushing the boundaries in this genre...

This album did not give me the impression that it was all that different from the band's last two endeavors. I really do not see Fas as much of an elaborate progression at all. And I quite like it.

I just finished listening to this for the 3rd or 4th time, and this is the first time I actually enjoyed it. Quite a bit at that. the other times it was just alright. I shall spin it some more this week.

The first time that I listened to it was actually at around 3 in the morning, lying in my bed, during the most intense fucking thunderstorm I've ever experienced in my life. Lightning flashes every few seconds lighting up the entirety of the night sky with rolling waves of thunder lasting nearly a minute a piece. That was really an experience.
