do your friends make fun of death metal?

I have one friend who understands metal so I don't have to worry about him, but my other friends thinks it's not music. I respond merely by explaining to them that they are narrow-minded and explaining to them, in great detail, why metal is, in fact, music and not, as they think, mindless noise. Think I used enough comma's? :loco:

Why bother? If dweebs wanna think that metal is noise, you 'explaining in great detail' why it isn't is probably just gonna bore the shit out of them.

I describe the complex musicianship most Metal requires to people who pass it off as noise. I don't care if they don't like it: I just want them to understand Metal goes far, FAR beyond the average music fan's ability to comprehend and appreciate complex music.

All in all, it doesn't matter what your friends think of metal. They're probably listening to something like 50Cent or Maroon 5 or some other rediculous untalented crap.

I probably wouldn't associate with anyone who listened to that shite TBH. Not all my friends like metal, but they don't listen to commercial disposable garbage either.

My friends say that metal is not interesting and not inteligent. Although they like to listen when I growl when I am bored at school sometimes. Most of my friends listens to rap. What an awful music. When they ask me why I like metal I tell them that metal is the only music which fills me with some feelings. That is my argument but they don't understand, not a fucking word.

Wait 'til you get into your thirties and the like and witness just how little your friends understand Death(or any other) Metal  It's chilling how a wife, child or two and a uniform of Dockers and polo shirts can take the Metal pedigree out of most anyone...sad really. A few from the old days still dig it, but by and large no, my friends don't get it at ALL. Their loss...

just wondering what you guys do in these current situations? im sick of arguing with people about metal...
I wouldn't even give someone who may be that shallow the time of day for an argument. Sounds like all of your friends are my pals.

Any music from a distance starts sounding like noise or random bumps,etc... If you want to get music you have to first sit near speakers not from two rooms and say it's noise or sucks. If you are not fully concentrating on music it starts sounding like noise or random. You decide as a person if music makes sense or is clear by observing and listening getting into it enjoying. You have to get all these out of music to realize that the people that made the music you hear are indeed making music. If you are writting something and someone is playing music you are not going to hear that music clearly because you are doing something else and because you are not listening to from where that person is. You might loose track of a tempo,etc... and the music might not sound focused or appear odd. Not every musician has typical tempo's like on the radio. People need to understand there is more to music than going by rules and regulations of how an intrument should be played what that intrument should sound like or how a song should be structured. Someone should be able to listen to semi-normal music and music deemed abnormal so you don't stuck in a mind state of how music should appear.

you forgot to mention that you are a musician/guitarist, so whatever point you may have made is not valid

Only Jazz is true.

Well, I'm from Iowa, and slipknots from iowa, so metal is big around here, and all my friends listen to it. So, they listen to death metal and are like "dude, thats really heavy." THen they go back and listen to slipknot or avenged sevenfold. One of my friends listens to death metal regularly, but otherwise, its all crap. Actually, everyone I care about likes slipknot except for me around here. The entire drumline for the marching band dressed up as slipknot for a halloween show. It was hilarious. The one with the nails coming out of her mask almost hurt someone. THe guitar virtuoso who is also a complete moron at our school loves slipknot and system of a down, as well as Steve Vai, metallica, queen, and other good bands. Even the local blues singer likes slipknot. Its crazy.

I get paid out a bit at work about it. "Oh you listen to Metal!" (person pretends to headbang and does the goat symbol). I stare at them and yawn.
