Faggoth?

This pretty much says what I was saying, more concisely and coherently:

As many have pointed out in this thread and others, ALL music expresses the artist. It doesn't express a specific political agenda or anything that concrete, but a general state of mind. And it is a proven fact that certain soundprogressions elicit certain types of states of mind and emotions, thus worldviews will fit with particular types of soundprogresssions and not with others. A band which has the sound of brutal death metal but sings about bunnies and happiness and prances about in pink bunny-suits is either mocking their ideological content or mocking the style of music they play it with. Either way, one of the two aspects is untrue and thus disqualifies it from being either death metal or 'happy-bunny metal', due to the incongruence between ideology and music-style.

A Christian band using the harsh jagged riffs, cold production and grim, nihilistic screams of a black metal band to convey love for God and peace and happiness among all mankind is simply mocking the black metal style or they aren't true christians, since the type of sounds they make goes against everything they supposedly stand for.

In all music, the sound IS the ideology, or rather a metaphor for it.

If a death metal band played awesome death with happy-bunny lyrics, and made the vocals so unintelligible that no one understood them and no lyrics sheet was provided, would anyone know the difference?

If you ask me - show me a death metal band which plays awesome death with unintelligible happy-bunny lyrics, then I'll tell you :p
Just wanna tell you all I'm so impressed with the thing you've done to this poor thread ;) I just had been curious how it is possilble to give almost 160 answers to the question >what does the term 'faggoth' mean?< and I got absorbed in the whole discussion, and because my English's shitty as hell my head aches so much and... oh, well.

Faggoth is basically the following

  • New Dimmu Borgir
    Cradle of Filth
    Old Man's Child
Emperor after the Nightside Eclipse album

I'm not even sure what the point of this thread is anymore ... first it was "why do people call black metal with synths 'faggoth'?" then it was "does black metal have to be national socialist" and now someones talking about bunny death metal.
Aside from that ... personally I prefer "symphonic black metal" ... I think that Emperor sounds much more sophisticated and musically appealing than shit like Darkthrone. And from the looks of the posts made by the "tr00" people -- any black metal that is somewhat commercial (compared to other black metal) or uses synths is known as "faggoth," regardless of what they sing about or how good their music is.
I really could give a fuck what these people think... seems as though most of the people who use the term "faggoth" are the people who wear corpsepaint every where they go and only dress in black and draw pentagrams on anything and never have any fun and only listen to Darkthrone / Burzum / National Socialist Black Metal.

Is it fun being a complete idiot? Could it be that maybe, the "symphonic" bands MENTIONED are looked down upon because... their music sucks?!

And just so you know, corpsepaint is only meant to be worn at night, not very many people actually *into* the black metal genre draw pentagrams on everything; we leave that up the CoF and Dimmu Borgir fags, and finally NSBM or any other form of raw black metal kicks the fuck out of "faggoth" bands (AKA: boring, uninspired, crap that you idiots like to call black metal).

I guess subtlety didn't work.

WE SHOULD DROP THIS.

It just doesn't look like anyone's gonna ever agree on this.

I could give a shit about the more commercial stuff -- Cradle of Filth -- I know they aren't black metal, that's not the point I'm trying to make.

If you support a NSBM band because you support their ideology, that's fine. But how can you honestly listen to stuff like Absurd and then say that Emperor sucks? And tell me why exactly you don't like synths in black metal. An answer like "they are untr00" is not acceptable, either.

Synths CAN be used well in black metal (kvist, nokturnal mortum etc), it's jsut that many bands think that as long as you use the "organ" preset and use it a lot it's great when it really isn't.

I don't listen to Absurd... they suck. I like NSBM like Gontyna Kry, Dub Buk, Hate Forest, Ohtar, Aryan Terrorism, etc, etc. It's not necessarily that I don't like synths or anything... it's that the bands listed in this thread are crap (to me at least). I couldn't give a shit over what's "tr00" and what isn't; if the music is good, it's good... the end. Some people tend to like their metal raw with 'not-so-good' production, while others like the stuff that's overproduced and very 'clear' sounding.

Sure, some people here are trying to be "tr00" (I hate that fucking word), but I'm not necessarily one of them.

Ok. While I agree that ideology does definately play an important part in defining a musical style, I think that the main ideal that was central in black metal was an opposition of Christianity. Partly because of the church burnings (even though a lot of that seems to have been Varg's thing), partly because being anti-Christian was the primary focus of many black metalers during the height of black metal (sometime during the second wave). Bands like Venom, who started black metal (even though they don't really sound much like what most people consider BM), did sort of define it as being anti-Christian.
I don't think, for example, that a Christian black metal band could exist, but I do think that it's ok for non-national socialist black metal bands to exist. Well, maybe if a BM blatantly opposed national socialism, then that might be a little wierd.
It would be people who would refuse to listen to non-NSBM because of a lack of national socialist ideology that I would have a hard time taking seriously. I personally don't feel that I need to agree with a band's ideology to listen to their music. I'm not saying that ideology doesn't play a part in choosing what I listen to -- but I won't refuse to listen to stuff like Burzum just because I don't particularly support some of his ideology.

Well, you just restored all your credibility in my opinion. Why didn't you just say that it was a matter of taste?
