Faggoth?

Most people who use the term "faggoth" use it to define symphonic black metal (Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, etc...). Generally I think the term ("faggoth") is pretty asinine ... says more about the person who uses it than it says about the bands that they are talking about.
Well said.

Way to overexaggerate. I'm not going to sit around and let black metal be one of the few stagnant genres of modern music. It will evolve, dammit!

Why does no one like symphonic black metal? Yes I know it isn't tr00 or whatever, but I still happen to think Dimmu does an excellent job at it.

That is just plain homosexual. And because that is so, hopefully the kVlt tr00 black metallers will kill themselves.

I can't see why people prefer the gr1m tr00 black metal over stuff like Dimmu Borgir, anyway. I mean, Mayhem's Live in Leipzeig is pretty cool, and Darkthrone kick ass...but they can't touch the melodic symphonic black metal, like early CoF or Old Man's Child or Borknagar or later Emperor or whatever. Why should people care so much about the ideology that they lose the focus that the music is pants? I don't mean to offend those that like the raw coldness of it all, but it's gonna get old. And those Bible-burning, Jew-hating, "National Socialists" will grow up eventually. Notice how Bathory and Immortal and Emperor and Ulver gave up their black metal roots and began forging new identities just to get away from the limiting boundaries of archaic 80's black metal. And instead of advancing the genre along with them, they were simply dismissed as no longer tr00.

Notice how Cryptopsy, Morbid Angel, and Possessed are all death metal...and yet very different in sound, theme, and aesthetic. Black metal should be the same. Bands should be able to complicate and experiment and orchestrate and retain the title. When something sounds like black metal...I'll call it black metal. I'm not going to nitpick little bullshit details and call them "Finnish norsecore with classical influences" or "Polish faggoth with orchestral elements" or "ex-NSBM-turned-faggoth". Fuck that!

So according to you, Old Man's Child's anti-Christian ideology isn't good enough? I know I have to step carefully here, because if I say something wrong, I'll piss off the true defenders of the black metal throne.

You're a fucking idiot, anonymous. When the FUCK will you get into your head that it ISN'T about who plays "raw black metal" and who plays "symphonic black metal", it is about IDEOLOGY. IDEOLOGY, NOT MUSIC. COMPREHEND OR SHUT THE FUCK UP.

so by your logic if Linkin Park embraced the "True" Black Metal ideology but still kept churning out their pathetic excuse for music, it would be black metal?

Just because a band uses symphonic, operatic or melodic elements, i don't see how it makes them any less black....

And Anonymous, that was a very well crafted response.

Thanks everyone. It feels good to be heard. I say we break down this imaginary black metal/faggoth boundary one person at a time. Who's with me?

Don't feel bad. It's the logic that's flawed. It's not Erik's fault. Old Man's Child is black metal.

Thanks for the support, Anonymous. I guess the answer to my question will be that black metal embraces minimalism to conjur dark and hateful imagery, thus OMC and DB cannot be black metal..

and this was the fucking funniest thing i've read all year. i'm debating giving this thread 5 stars just for the hilarity ensuing from this comment. hell, i may even put it in my sig...

i second this. along with the rest of the people here who agree with him. god damn... most of your comments are so ignorant and mis-informed that it isn't even worth debating. just take your idiocy and go the fuck on.

Can you just answer my question? I've got no hostile intentions, so just go ahead..

OMC may be anti-christian, but they certainly ARE NOT black metal! you're missing a huge point: black metal is always anti-christian, but anti-christian is not always black metal. no one on this planet would call slayer black metal (although some of you people here at GMD would probably try to say they were)... OMC ARE NOT STYLISITICALLY BLACK METAL!!!! neither is fucking cradle of filth or dimmu borgir. i blame it on mis-information due to the media attention all these bands have recieved -- ignorant people have mis-named this music "black metal" when it is in fact a watered-down death metal sound with keyboards and melody here and there. being anti-christian DOES NOT make it black metal. the sound offered by these bands is worlds apart from black metal.

as a side note, i also find it funny that the only "tr00" (what a fucking stupid term; you get on others for using "faggoth", but throw this one around) black metal bands you guys are aware of are darkthrone and mayhem.

@ Black Winter Day: It seems to me that you agreed with what Erik said there. Still, you claim that Old Man's Child aren't black metal due to the style of music.. Whereas Erik claims that the only thing that decides whether a band is BM or not is their ideology? Hmmm..

I don't know whether you aimed that comment about not knowing of any true black metal bands at me, but I can assure you that I know of many so called "true" black metal bands. I can just refer to Guardian Of Darkness' "Essential Black Metal Album" list :p

Tell that to Erik.

Edit: Ah, forget it, I'll probably just receive an answer filled to the brim with sarky comments about how much I suck and that BM's ideology is so much more than anti-Christianity etc etc. It still seems to me that you contradict each other, though.
