I have a lot of friends who are metal people that I got to know through years of hanging out at Metal Haven. Also, I still have a good number of friends from college. Mostly people who I lived in the same house with at one point or another. Then after that I have a solid number of e-friends that I write emails to very regularly. I even took a trip to Toronto to meet a girl I found on Omegle. I don't have a hard time making friends. The only problem is that Chicago is such a big place that I'm sort of limited to hanging out on weekends. Everyone is pretty spread out.

Work is the one place where I've had no luck, though. I'm easily the youngest person in the immediate vicinity. So during breaks and lunch I just stick to writing to people.

Basically exactly what Onder said. My IRL friends are great, but it's really hard to find people who have the same superficial "interests" as me (music etc) who are also fun to hang out/go out with.

When I was living in Chicago I met a surprising amount of intelligent metalheads and ended up hanging out with them every now and then etc.

The guy I know from UChicago I met at Watain and we just ended up getting to know each other, and I met a bunch of people at local bm shows (Velnias, Clad in Darkness etc) and so on.

I have quite a lot of friends, but none of them listen to metal the way I do, that's why I come here so often so I don't have to bother them with shitty bands that no-one likes. My friends from high school (apart from 2 of my band members), I barely see anymore. We've all got different outlooks on life. I'm ready to move ahead with life, focus on studies, career and hobbies while they're still getting stoned, taking drugs and getting trashed when they can. Every time I do hang out and catch up with them, I feel a little let out. They all listen to very different music to me and they talk about useless trivial shit and bitch about people that I don't care about.

Right now I mainly chill with my band members and a few other guys in the local metal scene. The topic of music never gets old and there's always stuff to discuss. Plus they seem to hold more interesting conversations. Also I tend to chill out with my uni friends that I get along pretty well with that don't listen to metal.

I find it easy to be sociable when I want to and people find me more or less approachable. I have many acquaintances that I meet at the workplace that I see every now and then. I'm pretty normal when it comes to social capability, although sometimes people think that I can seem to come off as arrogant or snobbish when I'm just generally outspoken. And sometimes girls mistake my genuine niceness to be flirting.

The only "e-friend" I really have is vihris-gari, because we've talked about poetry and other things with each other via email.
