General Chat Thread: waves hello

The most important thing to me is to enjoy my job. I haven't for quite a while so that's what prompted me to fire off a resume. It was just meant to blow off a little steam.

I was there only one year ago, less I simply told the production manager to go fuck himself, as there is no Engineering/Maintenance department at my past employer's company and I had to answer to his fat ass. Had I been in a slightly less agitated state of mind, I would have cited the old Jonny Paycheck song. I've always wanted to do that.
Anyway, it really sucked absolutely dreading to go to work everyday. I am glad I made a change, though it was more sudden than I had originally intended. I hope you get this new job. It's always great to expand your knowledge even if you find you don't like it or the company doesn't make it. With only twelve employees, the benefit package can't be all that great. I am sure you have thought about that eh ?
Of course if you know your way around C++ (though most of that is probably fizzled out) J2EE and other weird letter combinations I know nothing about, TSYS down here in Columbus Georgia is always looking for programmers. My ex-wife works there. She was heavily involved in their Y2K changeover.

  I doubt I'll be quoting Johnny Paycheck if I do leave. I'm kinda hoping to get a little side work from them.

Thanks. I'm hoping it works out too. The benefits look to be about the same or maybe even better. The company I work for now has five fulltime employees and one parttime. I'm on my wife's insurance which is costing us about $300 a month. So, if their insurance is even halfway decent it'll be like an instant raise. And they give four weeks of vacation a year which is slightly more than I get now. The one thing they didn't mention is any kind of 401K or retirement.

In the modified words of Brad Pitt in "A River Runs Through It": Oh, I'll never leave Colorado, brother. :)

A major downfall of where I work. Family business, currently 4 managers with one whose set to retire soon. Only 10 days a year no matter how long we work there. Us 'kids' are talking about this because we'd all like to take a European vacation and our current policy is no more than 5 days off in a row (that's combined with your 2 days off so at best 9 days off consecutively.)

No 401K but they do pay the med. for both David and I. That and wholesale furniture!!! :p

Sheesh! You can't even get away and do anything in 9 days! Of course the longest I've taken off since I started working here was for Prog Power so I guess it wouldn't matter a whole lot to me. What that tells me is that I need a vacation!

I have a second interview today. The most nerve wracking part was deciding what to wear! Tech companies are so funky that you actually *can* overdress. It was pretty easy to rule out the Nevermore tour shirt though. :zombie:

10 days ?? Weow, that's sounding pretty medieval !!
When you work day-time here you got at least 30 days a year or so.
at the factory I work daytime workers get about 45 days...I work in shifts and get extra days becouse I'm in an evening course (privat companies have to give extra days if you follow evening school). Total for me will be about 90 days off or so ... That gives about 140 days I have to work a year. And still is much too much :p

Laws in Costa Rica are fairly simple you have two weeks per year (meaning you work 50 and rest 2) after a complete calendar year working for the same employer (exception educational sector that have a month in july and nearly three months at the end of the year).

Of course depending on your position is kind of difficult to take all the days altogether. For example I asked one day off tomorrow to recover from the concert :D, I still have like 7 days from 2005 and in July I'll be eligible for another 14 days more. I count on those days for PPVII and more leisure.
Vacations in my company don't prescribe, and if resign or fired they have to pay me the days of vacation I didn't took.

being that I work with family it's often... "oh another concert huh?" Which makes no sense to me. If I am entitled to 10 days off a year WTF concern is it of anyones what I do with my time. I don't care where they go...what difference should it make to them. (this applies mostly to my father in law...who thinks it's completely unacceptable that David let's me go to shows 'alone') but you know where he can go...

Makes me think we've got it all backwards over here. :erk:

What the? Man, that ain't right. Sometimes bosses/owners ought to keep their opinions to themselves, even if they are family. Especially if they're in-laws! Now, my wife does get a little crap for "allowing" me to go to ProgPower every year. Of course the corsette pictures have not helped in that regard.

  It's a fair trade....David went to the comic convention in Sacramento and there was a porn star there doing signings... David says "What they hell am I supposed to say... I enjoy your work, nice t***?! " So he ogles his porn stars, I ogle my rock stars! Fair trade if you ask me since I don't get to see them naked!!

Makes me realize again how lucky I am. My wife and me go to concerts together for about 2/3th of the time. I never have to justify myself. In fact she hates it when she can't go with me. My wife is the best! :worship: :headbang: :p

Sorry man, but my wife is the best! :p :saint:

My wife and I crossover musically at Metallica (somewhat), Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Bon Jovi, and the more popular Blues artists like SRV. The 50s, 60s, and 70s are all fair ground when we're in the car on a road trip. We don't get to see too many shows together. It hasn't gotten in the way yet. :)

Wheezer probably means ten days plus weekends. I am off probably 95 days a year. I could be off more or work more. I could take off 110 days a year as it stands but I would make less money. I am paid by the hour. Everything I work over 8 hours is 1.5 times what I make an hour and every hour I make over forty hours in one week is also 1.5 times my hour pay. Unfortunately, I am at the very top of the hour paid emplotyees. For me to move up in pay, I would have to move into a stupidvisor's position which means less time repairing/improving machines and more time doing paperwork and the other shit jobs the stupidvisors have to do.
Right now I only have five vacation days and one personal day, but it will grow the longer I stay with the company. If I give plenty of notice, I can usually take a day off here and there, but I will not be paid for it. I can't complain though.

Hmmm..... my inlaws live in Japan. :kickass: They are cool though. I have never had a problem with them. On a side note, my ex-wife's Mom likes me more than her own daughter.
That's pretty silly though. As long as David trusts you what difference should it be where you go ? My wife trusts me to go pretty much anywhere I want to and vice-versa.

Yup. Sort of. There are about 260 work days in a year (5 X 52). There are about 10 holidays (in the US) per year. That knocks the total down to 250. Two weeks of vacation is ten days which would knock the total down to 240. So Carnut's 95 days off and 140 days on looks like a really sweet deal to me. In addition to my four weeks off (knocking the total down another 10 days to 230) it would be an additional 90 days off. An entire three months more vacation than I get now. I'd have to come up with a really cool hobby to keep me busy. :)
