GMD Poll: Black Sabbath’s Discography Ranked

Sphinx (The Guardian)/Seventh Star - 2/5 (sounds *too* Sabbath-y, Dio-era imitation
Something I've always found a bit funny, how the title track to an album that was originally intended to be an Iommi solo album ends up being the most explicitly Sabbath sounding. Granted Iommi has a distinctive style of riffing but its interesting nevertheless.

Speaking of Seventh Star, anyone know why the background "ooh's and aahh's" aren't on the album version of "No Stranger to Love" during the chorus like they are in the video version?

Listening to Seventh Star right now. Don't know why people find this bad. Definitely better than TE or NSD or even Vol. 4.

Glenn Hughes' voice never ages it seems.
I don't agree that it touched Vol. 4, but I agree, much better than NSD or TE, and I really like those records. I don't comprehend the hate for it either, it's absurd, other than Dio, Hughes is the best voice to sing for the band, at least on a technical level. His voice ages, but in the exact opposite of deterioration, it just gets richer and richer as he ages, still able to go anywhere from the mid second octave to the lower sixth octave with ease, resonance, and power, which had you told me that in the 70's I would've found it hard to believe you, seeing as his voice was already God-like.

The Martin era as a whole is still unfairly overlooked but its good to know its stock has risen somewhat over the years based on what I've read online. Its interesting now how Iommi has said there might be some reissues/re-masters coming down the pipeline where for years the general narrative was that he was trying to erase that era of Sabbath from history.

Lol you're really going to think it needs to be outlawed after you read my Top 10. I'll take 'Skew the results' for 300, Alex!:

Actually you're one of the few faggots that does things out of spite, not me. That's wimpy gay shit.

But your list is pretty good anyway, Heaven and Hell in the top spot? Fuck yeah I respect that shit.

Ive got a re issue of The Eternal Idol with one disc Martin is singing and the other is Ray Gillen
Those Gillen recordings make for some interesting listening. A bit heavier than the finished album with Martin, though I think the story of how Martin came in and had to learn the parts at the very last minute right before he had to record is a good testament of his talents.

Heaven and Hell? Top Sabbath? I'd argue its only even top-three Sabbath (and that's only if you remove Lady Evil). Otherwise I disagree with every fiber of my being.

I've never seen anyone as obsessed with rating individual tracks as HamburgerBoy. Just further shows his superficial appreciation of the music.

How is that superficial? I analyze the quality of each song both within and outside the context of its respective album.
