GMD Votes: Black Metal prelims + discussion

So, here we are at the next one. However, I'm leaving it up to you all on what kind of black metal should be included since I'm not a black metal nut like most of you here.

Should it be traditional? Atmospheric? All of it?

Should we include demos? EPs? crimsonfloyd made a case for EPs, but I really think it's tenuous. I guess it's more prevalent for black metal? I'm not really sure.

Once that is determined, you will list your top 15-25 albums and it will continue as it did with the previous threads.

I would say let it all stand so long as it sounds more like BM than another genre. For example: Myrkgrav & Drudkh. Both have elements of BM and folk, but Myrkgrav is clearly on the other side of folk and Drudkh on this side of BM. It becomes more difficult with blackened death metal... Do we include Dissection? I'd argue yes, but I could see some dissent there. In any case, isn't that what the second round is for? Taking the more broadly popular albums and narrowing it to a consensus.

EDIT: Just ask yourself the question "Could this more closely fall within another genre large enough to have its own poll thread?" If yes, leave it off.

I'd be open to pretty much every genre, even the hybrid styles like Revenge, but I agree with Draele, so long as the majority of the music is black metal-y, good enough.

I'd say whatever is fine, as long as people don't spam the thread with Venom albums (I'm looking at you, HBB).

As for EPs and demos, I don't really care. I doubt there will be any on my list. My main point was that the distinction is ambiguous to begin with. One less song and Reign in Blood would be an EP and it's probably gonna win the thrash thread. It was more of a point of principle.

The only track that even has a case for being black metal is I Am The Wooden Doors

I love the album and it is better than 99% of any metal for me, but doesn't have a place here (honestly no Agalloch does outside of Faustian Echoes and the last two albums - which are trash anyways)
