If we don't do a Doom metal (all genres are fine as long as it's more doom than death and such) then I'll just post my own top 10 and all ya'll fuckers can just bask in my amazing glory.

Or it just proves that this board is infested with BM-fellating WIMPS that have listened to all the obscure atmogaze black metal acts in existence while remaining ignorant of any non-big 4/Teutonic trio thrash.

Pretty much.

Also, who really gives a fuck what sub-genre any given person rates over another? I like shit from black, death, heavy, doom, power, thrash, and the albums at the top of each genre are essentially equal in terms of quality.

So you think power metal at its best is better than thrash at its best?

Yup, but like I said, the vast majority of Power Metal is garbage, while Thrash has plenty of good stuff. For every good Power Metal album, there's 20 good Thrash albums.

Neither genre comes anywhere close to Death, Black, Doom, or Trad metal, though.

Or it doesn't prove anything except BM has a more diverse lineup. Doesn't mean its a "better" genre in quality, just that Thrash is Thrash is Thrash. You change it too much and it aint thrash no more. BM is simply more malleable and open to interpretation. That doesn't necessarily make it better.

"More malleable and open to interpretation" = the powers that be arbitrarily define metal sub-genres as widely or narrowly as they feel a need to. There's far more in common between, say, Metallica and Pantera or Slayer and Merauder, than there is between Root and Silencer or Bathory and Agalloch. However, "groove" and "tuffguy attitude" aren't kvlt so blackwimps can just pretend that stuff has nothing to do with thrash.

Please name some of the power metal albums that you think can stand with most of the albums from our top thrash lists.

Did you mean thrash doesn't come anywhere close to those sub-genres because it's already on a much higher level than most of em'? If so than yes, i agree.

Everyone that is jerking off to genre differences are gay as fuck. Just put on that Bathory album you want to listen to and remember that the good days are long gone.

80s power/speed metal easily stands up against the thrash greats. I wouldn't call it better or worse than thrash but like others have said, I'd have a hard time picking a preferred genre out of heavy, power, thrash, doom, black, and death metal. Each of those sub-genres have spawned some of the finest examples of heavy metal in the history of the genre.

Anyways, as far as power metal goes, these albums are among the best:

Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
Omen - Battle Cry
Helstar - Nosferatu
Liege Lord - Burn to My Touch
Attacker - Battle at Helm's Deep
Blind Guardian - Tales from the Twilight World
Brocas Helm - Black Death
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I
Agent Steel - Skeptics Apocalypse
Adramelch - Irae Melanox

I agree with this, i just like fucking with the few people here who always seem to "belittle" thrash.

Cant get into Fates Warning, Battle Cry is fucking awesome but it's not power metal imo, Nosterafu rips, so does Black Death. I like most early BG to a certain extent but Somewhere Far Beyond is my favorite. Haven't listened to Attacker in years, never really got into them. I think the keeper albums suck balls, it's the type of power metal i try to steer away from, their first album was ok. Havent listened to Liege Lord or Adramelch. I think we should have maybe left this for the upcomng power metal list/thread :p
