Yeah, you're right more or less. I just checked Expedia for October 20 - 22 timeframe for Gothenburg -> USA.
A 3 star hotel in NY will cost you $250 - $300 per night average. Flight to JFK is $500, so that TOTALS $800.
The same hotel in MN will cost you $150 per night, and the flight is $800. That TOTALS $950.
So of course people would be sharing rooms, but there is no doubt that the cheaper travel to NY offsets the accomodation.
And like I said earlier, people will drive from surrounding states which themselves are heavilly populated.
MN on the other hand is surrounded by Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
I'm telling you though, NJ is the best bet. You will have many people coming in from PA, NJ, CT, DC etc, and you're giving them *ample parking space*, no tunnel/bridge costs, and cheap hotels.
