Just because a car provides a driving experience that you find desirable, doesn't negate the fact that the BMW is a status symbol and that you are paying a premium for the logo.btw... you guys keep saying "Novelty" - the "status symbol" is BULLSHIT and mainly for people who don't care about driving, yet want a nice car.
And as far as quality, Dark One was right, their quality has been on the decline for quite some time.
When you pay $50K for a car, it should run as well as a $16K Honda.i don't know where this data came from, they are not Japanese cars for sure, but you might be thinking about MB more so than BMW.
hehehe
who's that?
uh..... that's not true....... where did you get that?
I guess it all comes down to your definition of "better". For instance, my friends $60K 2004 330M didn't look better in the rear view mirror of my $25K 2004 Mustang Mach 1, covered it all that dust I kicked up. As a matter of fact, it looked down right slow. They *are* better cars... period. It's not just the logo, and you're not only paying for the "BMW" name to be on your key chain, when you drive one, you'll know.
Honestly, I have no clue. There's a few cars I want to drive:so what are you getting Greg?
That wouldn't surprise me at all. I have a strange feeling I'll end up in the Jetta. From what I've read, it seems like they're the best combination of price, features, driving fun and style. The SELs in black with the chrome grills look pretty sweet.leasing is weird ... i am willing to bet that the best deal you will get is on the Jetta and Lexus
Not bad. However, there's a reverse snob appeal to such a car. When you're talking something in the "status symbol" arena, I don't really want the entry-level option. To me, such products scream, "I'm vain and vapid enough to want a status symbol... but I can't afford it."

^ I like how you never mentioned not having anything wrong with Alfa's
