I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

uhmmm ... wait ... Lexus iS250? :loco:
No good? Don't know much about them.

my friend Leon, you met him, has a Jetta GLI, 07 ... sweet
Interestingly, in 2008, the GLI dropped "Jetta" from their name and are now simply GLIs. That said, I'm glad you pointed that out to me. I had been targeting the Jetta in the VW line, and consequently, ignoring the GLI.

Does Leon have the straight manual or that DSG transmission? If he has the latter, what does he think of it?

the DSG GLI is basically a GTI "sedan" ... I drove it and it smokes. The DSG is one smooth automatic, and has insanely smooth and fast shifts.

Leon bought the Fahrenheit limited edition 07 just 4 months ago, same time I got the Mazda ...

You used the site to purchase the cars? How so? I merely use the site for reviews, both editors and posters.

Yep, sure did. In 2005 there was a link on Edmunds to obtain quotes from local dealers for whatever model you were researching. I filled out the information and was contacted by 4 different local Subaru dealerships via email within the next 36 hours. I took the best quote and then went to the dealership with basically a haggle-free experience.

Just drove the GLI. Nice. Aside from having the straight 6-speed automatic, and tiptronic shifting (both on the shifter and paddles on the wheel), it also has an sport setting. It's the same as driving the car as an automatic, but shifts the car between 4,000 to 5,500 RPMs, instead of near 3,000. Pretty slick. The only problem is, the only way to get it with leather (the cloth seats are goat awful), is to get with the Autobahn package, which is rare (for some bizarre reason) with the automatic transmission.

hahah ... I am not down on the IS250 ... I was poking fun of your statement about entry level luxury brands :loco:

also ....

the Smarts are getting delivered to owners this week in the US ... here's a video that is cool and at the same time dispells the BS that American's are not gas conscious (listen to the talk with the SUV driver)

There's a difference to me between the BMW 3 series and the Lexus IS250 and say the BMW 1 series. The latter feels like when Porsche put out the 914, which was dubbed the "poor man's Porsche". That said, I just looked more closely at the IS250, and it's out of the running. If the 350 was the same price, I'd be interested.
