Interview with a Metalhead?

1. How did you get into Metal, or who got you into Metal? What about it attracted you?
i was listening to cock rock like deep purple and then one day someone played me the incredibly manly metal of manowar, a forest of hairs instantly grew on my chest and i became a metalhead for life.

i was listening to deep purple and then one day someone played me the incredibly manly metal of manowar and i realized that big oily men in thongs and cock in my ass is what i truly prefer. It was revelation of mystic proportions

It felt natural to go from loud punk rock to loud heavy metal.

2. If you had to pick one song that epitomizes Metal to you, what would it be?
a. What about one album?
b. One artist?

3. What sub-genre of Metal do you think has been most influential to the genre as a whole? (Doom, Black, Speed, Thrash, etc.) Why?

Pornogrind of corpse.

4. What is your opinion on interactive music centered video games such as Rock Band or Guitar Hero? Do you like or dislike them? Do you think it has positively or negatively influenced the genre since the first game release?

5. What are your religious beliefs/affiliations, if you have any? Feel free to discuss or skip this question to your own will.

I worship the toilet gods.

6. In the UK, many census takers listed their religion as Heavy Metal. What are your thoughts on this “phenomena”?

The UK is the homeland of the speds.

7. What are your political beliefs? What do you believe are the most important/most damning issues in our world? Feel free to discuss or skip this question at your own will.

Anarcho-statism.

8. What about a person makes them Metal? Are there any defining characteristics that make a Metalhead?

MORE POWAH!

9. What does your style consist of? What are some important clothing articles to you, or items you think every Metalhead would or should own?

Hawaiian shirts, shorts, denim vest, bucket hat, Impetigo t-shirt (probably with stains).

1. I used my guitar to cope with being bullied a lot by religious nuts in private school. The aggressive lyrical nature and technically challenging aspects of metal drew me to it as my preferred style of playing.

2. Unfair question. No one song/album/artist can capture the diverse spectrums of genre's of metal.

3. Thrash maybe as it solidified the aggressive nature of modern metal

4. I hate those games, but it's probably helped make metal more mainstream. I don't remember metallica and megadeth being cool in the mainstream crowd until guitar hero.

5. Pantheist.

6. Dumb I guess... but then again I feel that way about religion in general. Even though I listed pantheism I see it more as a "spiritual" perspective than anything that dictates how I dress, act, what I belief, etc. I definitely feel like people I've been around held religious attitudes towards metal though. I always liked diversity including things outside of rock/metal and it seems like that is looked down on in some circles.

7. Corruption really. My passion is medicine so those are the issues I tend to focus on. Scientific literacy and transparency in medicine and medical policy, enhancing patient autonomy, research priorities etc. Also think the government needs to get the hell out of who smokes what, snorts what, what gender they're fucking and all that. Fucking tired of bigotry being the political norm. As far as economic policies I believe in a healthy balance of free market values and government checks and balances.

8. Don't think so. I've played in metal bands, have hair down past my nipples and listen to metal frequently. But I don't really wear band shirts every day anymore or even identify as a "metalhead". I like psytrance, alt rock, rap, etc. But I can still get down with some Asphyx so what label do I use?

9. Important clothing articles typically include underwear pants and a shirt. Sometimes socks as well.

The way a lot of metalheads worship Sabbath is a bit trendy and overrated. They are innovators and made some great music after all, but they arent exactly my favorite band. They are more like my father's favorite heavy metal band (in fact I think they are, but he killed himself so I cant ask), and im slightly more modern in taste. They might show up in my top 20 if I bothered to make one.

Agreed. Maybe ya'll are old farts and are just being nostalgic about when Sabbath was a big deal, but it's a pretty hipster thing to worship them like rock gods if you were born after '90. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate them for what they are, but metal has been taken to so many new heights since then I just don't get the itch to rock out to Sabbath much. Also cumulative lifetime exposure to the Iron Man riff, particularly in sloppy performance by beginner guitarists, has probably put me off of them as well
