Is anyone else here as narrow minded (musically) as I am?

I'm really close minded when it comes to music. I like what I like, and I want my metal to sound like that. I can listen to Dark Ambient while reading, and I enjoy King Crimson and Van der Graaf Generator from time to time, but really that's it. I get everything I need out of music in metal.

About the only non-metal things I like include:
Elliott Smith
Porcupine Tree (some metal influence)
non-metal releases from bands that used to be metal (i.e. Anathema, Ulver)
Rush, and a few classic rock bands

bonjovi, boston, kansas, journey...

thats the kind of classic rock I actually hate. fuck corporate rock. jon bon jovi is a prick and can eat my shit. same with Springsteen. I guess better not show my face in New York or Jersey.

as far as my tastes go, I mainly listen to a lot of metal and hardcore punk. I also dig some experimental jazz and (go ahead, laugh) some 80s new wave like The Cars and The Human League.

I respect classical but rarely listen to it. as far as folk goes, I like some folk/black metal, but thats still metal. I've given up on hip-hop, just doesn't do it for me anymore. not that I hate it, it just doesn't really strike a nerve with me like metal and punk.

I listen mostly to metal, but I also enjoy punk, some hard rock, and prog rock (Tool, Porcupine Tree)...I really like metal that has classical influences as well. I don't like rap or any kind of hip-hop or techno at all though since I just don't like it a all like everyone else at my school who's always talking about ak0n and eminem...I like a bit of classic rock too I guess, but not as near much as prog rock/metal...

90% of the music I hear every day, on average, is metal. Metal is the only music I spend money on. However, I tend to listen to the classic rock station when I'm in the car, especially with my friends or my mother. When my father's in the car we play classical music.

Well if you don't buy it, or are listening to it because of someone else, it does not count. I only spend money on metal, and it's the only thing I listen to when by myself, save for once in a blue moon when I decide to listen to one of the few hardcore or punk bands that I like.

I actually help out a friend of mine by playing in a band with him, and the music overall isn't metal, but the riffs are, and the picking technique is very metal influenced (I write all the guitar). Still, I like what we play, mostly because of my metal influenced guitar, and we get played on local stations like WAAF and WBCN.

I listen to classic rock and classical because I enjoy listening to it. It just happens to be that my parents also enjoy classic rock and classical, so when I'm with them, we can all enjoy listening to music.

I enjoy a variety of underground metalcore and hardcore, a lot of it MA local. I enjoy the occasional chug-a-chug riff or beakdown, I guess. I also like a lot of hard and classic rock, classical, etc.

I still listen to mostly metal, though.

I listen mainly to metal in its many forms, some of ambient, industrial, electronic, gothic, death rock and some stuff I'd generally call hard rock, and about two punk bands.

Edit: I like the song "Goodbye Horses" by Q Lazzarus :p . Thats basically a pop song, and as close to that as I get.

It seems that almost everyone here listens to some other genre of music along with metal. I only listen to metal, save for a couple hardcore and punk bands that I happen to like, but still very rarely listen to. I just can't get into any pop, country, jazz, blues, rock or alt-rock, and especially not hip hop. Hell, I can't even get into Led Zeppelin or anything of the like. Techno without words can sometimes be ok, but I wouldn't listen to it on my own, and the same goes for classical music (though I can see the great substance and genius involved in the composition of classical music). I am not ashamed of being this musically narrow minded. Anyone else here as limited as I am in their taste?:kickass:

Nope. There's lots of stuff outside of metal I love. Frankly I'd go crazy if all I listened to was metal or any other genre for that matter.

I listen to plenty of non-metal. Last DVD I bought was Prince.

:kickass: Hell yes.
