Is anyone else here as narrow minded (musically) as I am?

As other people said, metal really has what I am looking for in music, that the other genres don't. Of the other genres, I do enjoy the instrumental stuff more, since besides metal, the lyrics in all other genres are about girls/relationships/partying, and I can't stand such lyrics. Also, no other genre can get as dark, gloomy, or aggressive as metal does.

How do you know that if you never bothered to explore other styles? Some ambient electronica is just as dark and gloomy as the doomiest doom band, and a lot of hardcore and punk is just as aggressive as metal, if not more so.

uh, very few genres outside of popular music are about girls/relationships/partying

tim man you are incredibly ignorant about music outside of metal.

I love jazz, classical, folk music, etc. I also have a thing for Latin Gregorian chants. Pretty cool shit.

Mainly metal for me, but I also enjoy progressive rock, post rock and classical on occasion.

The problem I have with Classical is I often don't know where to start. I'm listening to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring right now and it's pretty badass. Could I get any other recommendations for Classical must haves?

Not to mention various dark English pop from the 80's, and blackened mechanics of early 90s Chicago & Detriot techno...

Plus he obviously has NOT listened to the masterpiece that is Gorecki's Symphony Of Sorrowful Songs. You want fucking dark and depressive? It doesn't come much more powerful than that

burial's album was pretty much the darkest thing to come out of 2006 and it's got nothing at all to do with metal

That's because outside of metal, all of the music I heard is the most popular of its genre (which makes sense, since you won't hear the less popular pop/rap/alt etc. at the gym or at a bar). I'm talking strictly in terms of modern music here, as classical and jazz are a different story.
