JRT12's Stinnett Guitar build

Yeah, a lot of people are used to seeing a square edge and a narrow tenon used to glue in the neck (like a Gibson and countless others), which is totally hidden by the fretboard.
My joint is more like a PRS, where the full width of the neck becomes the tenon, and it is further locked into the body because of the neck taper. There is actually more gluing surface with a joint like mine than with a lot of other set neck designs. The drawback is that if you don't want a neck pickup - the design is pretty much shot because there is nothing to hide the tenon.

Having no neck pickup isnt something Im gonna understand anytime soon... I mean even if you dont use it much, why not at least have the option? Shit, I like going oldskool with an HSS configuration, too.

I'm always striving to be like Marcus hahaha............not.

Back on topic, the guitar looks awesome Will, definitely looking at getting you to make me one of these bad boys when I have the dough!

I'm finishing up the oiling process today, then I've got to let it sit and cure for a few days before I assemble it and string it up. I don't want to handle it much in the meantime.
Should be done by the weekend though. Woot!

sorry for so many Qs at once, I just caught up with this thread...

What model router is that? Do you use a table with it, or just handheld? Ever tried doing cabinetry joints with it?

What sort of bit makes those control knob dimples? Sexy.

Is there a method for testing the frets / neck for dead spots prior to gluing it to the body, or does one have to rely on one's skill and training and hope for the best?

It is a Porter Cable, 690 I believe is the model number. I bought a spare base and built a table for it, so I use it both ways.

I make the control dimples with a cove bit chucked in my drill press. Be careful if you try it, very easy to tear out a chunk of wood. :)

If you mean "dead spots" based on resonances in the neck - then no, not really that I know of. That's one of the reasons I install the carbon fiber rods. They stiffen the neck and help prevent such a phenomenon.

A couple of shots after 5 coats:

The lighting is terrible here, but here are a couple of shots just after fitting all the parts.
I still need to polish the frets, wire it and set it up. Very close, though.

The pickups and the Floyd are just sitting there, not mounted yet.
