Melodic death Metal

"Soilwork entered the studio in January 2010 to record the long-awaited follow-up to 2007's Sworn To A Great Divide. The album will be produced by guitarist Peter Wichers and mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Bloodbath). The drums were tracked at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC. The rest of the recording is set to take place near Charlotte, N.C. and the final mix at Fascination Street in Orebro, Sweden.

"The Panic Broadcast" will be the first album to feature Peter Wichers since his return to the band in 2008, as well as the studio debut with guitarist Sylvain Coudret (Scarve) who also joined last year.

The album will be released 25th of June."

Looking forward to this one, even though Ive not been the biggest fan of the last records.

YES! I actually loved Sworn to a Great Divide, aside from production...it's way better than STD

The only DZ album worth a damn is SNF, which is pretty killer.

This Is Hell is significantly better. Neither are great. DZ has always had the potential to be awesome; some sweet aggressive riffs, good vocals, excellent musicianship and production, etc. It just seems like they don't really take much time to write songs...if Jesper goes all-in with DZ that could change. I'll definitely be looking into whatever they produce.

I recently checked out Sacrilege's The Fifth Season; melodic death from Sweden. Pretty catchy stuff. Similar to Gothenburg, but with a bit more old school influence, it sounds.

I've been looking out for both their full-lengths. They're easily available in a combined release, but I'm holding out for individual CDs. Not hard to get, but I'm cheap.

The Few Against Many

Catchy Death metal, with proggy keyboards similar to Dan Swano's Moontower.

Good stuff, one of the best MDM releases of 2009.

Cant fucking wait. Didnt like their last album, but im stocked for this.

Ok, seriously... I need "Silence of the World Beyond" by A Canorous Quintet badly... Has anyone got any recommendations as to where i could find it? The best thing yet is a used 39 euro version that I found on Amazon... If anyone would by any chance have a link to where I could purchase "Carpet" by Ceremonial Oath I would also appreciate it sincerely. In advance I thank you for your help.

Here's an indication of what Silence of the World Beyond regularly sells for on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/A-Canorous-Quin...mdZViewItemQQptZMusic_CDs?hash=item19baea3d92

Ceremonial Oath's albums, on the other hand, are extremely rare and sought after, and you'll be lucky to pick either up for less than $50.

Nah well, thanks alot. Guess I'll have to keep my eyes open and wait for the right moment. Feels better to invest in rare CDs than your average, unnecessary bullshit that people tend to waste money on on a daily basis. Has anyone of you got Carpet by Ceremonial Oath, btw? Would like to hear what you think of it, I've only been able to find a few songs (those with Tompa on vocals) and to me it all seems good.
And, finally, I would just like to point out how glad I am to find people who agree with me when saying that tRitSiO is by far the best melodic death metal album by ATG, and one of those who qualify as the best in this genre.

Some actual fucking melodic death metal.

But I'm not brutal enough, so I'll just mention some actual melodic death metal albums that people may not know about.

Paths Of Possession - Promises In Blood
Basically, very catchy songs alternating between really gothenburgy melodies and chunky riffing with the occasionally bit of dissonant riffing or brutality that reveals these guys are from the Florida death metal scene. Very catchy songs, if you don't mind Gothenburg.

Pandemonium - The Autumn Enigma
I think comparisons to Amorphis are unavoidable. I really like this album. It's not so catchy, but it has a good atmosphere and some really strong riffing pops up in the second half.

Kataklysm - Shadows And Dust
Most people will know Kataklysm, but given the hate they get people must not know about this album. Huge chunky riffs, blasting trem-picked sections, catchy choruses, and raw as fuck. Hamstrung by a production that in no way captures the badassery in full, but still excellent.

Gardenian - Soulburner
This album is like a melodic death metal version of Soundgarden - Superunknown. It's quite varied and pretty catchy but also pretty depressing.

Ebony Tears - Tortura Insomniae
Basically, TJR-era In Flames, but not as good.

Autumnblaze - DammerElbenTragodie
Gloomy melodic death metal with occasional clean vocals. After the first album these guys started playing a really gloomy, sparse style of rock (no distorted guitars). I like their album Mute Boy, Sad Girl more than this, but I felt that it deserved mention.

Hard to believe it's the same band, and only a year or two later:

I've been getting into a lot of the old school melodic death(and also melodic black) bands. At The Gates are gods among the genre, but I also feel they are to blame for the genre losing that "mournful" or "melancholy" vibe that the old stuff has. Not too many of the newer melodic death releases accurately capture the emotions displayed on releases like "Silence of the World Beyond", or "The Gallery". It seems like a lot of them are content to worship Slaughter of the Soul. Not that there aren't ANY good bands coming out now. It just seems like the older scene was stronger musically.

Oh, and you guys all seem to love TRITSIO, but I prefer With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness, myself. TRITSIO is amazingly good, but "The Break Of Autumn" and "Primal Breath" are some of the best pieces of music I've ever heard.
