Tool an In Flames are tied, in my opinion.

I've given Tool many, MANY listens, both sober and no, and I keep waiting for it to "click", but it never does. To me, they're just boring. But, I don't consider them over-rated for that. I consider them over-rated due to the fact that their fanbase doubled after hearing "Sober". It was those people that went and bought all the Tool t-shirts, and it's those people that consider Tool to be the greatest band ever. I've run into so many of those fucks, that I can't help but be influenced. To be that adored due to one song, or a series of videos, is to be over-rated.

In Flames is a simpler bit. They've not made a solid-all-the-way-through album since Subterranean. Many people mistakingly consider them to be the band that defined that Gothenburg sound, when we all know they didn't. By seeing a band like In Flames get big, it inspired other, mediocre bands to come out from the woodwork and try to something they're not. We wouldn't have half as much garbage floating around if bands like these weren't extolled to the nth degree.

And Cobain only killed that poppy, glam-metal bullshit of the 80s. I think we all appreciated that one.

it was either kiss or nirvana for me. bothe are grossly overrated. but i like some nirvana stuff and hate kiss, so i voted kiss.

Kiss must be the biggest suckass band in the fucking universe.
Absolutely the worst band ever. They're not really that good musicians, and their songs suck. Just some 1970's backstreetboys, nothing more. Nirvana sucks pretty much as well. It is a shame that Alice in Chains wasn't the leading grunge band, though I personally never really liked grunge very much.

holy shit...is THIS the thread i've been waiting for?
If i hadn't already pissed enough people in UM off already, NOW'S my chance!!!!

This is a no-brainer, REALLY, there is absolutely NO DOUBT that the beatles are far and away the most overrated band of ALL TIME! Nothing more than a "fad" that, due to timing and nothing else, got WAY outta hand. They caught a wave of hysteria and became a phenomenon by pure accident! There was never anything particularly innovative about their material and they've had absolutely NO influence whatsoever on anything (good)!
Just for good measure, and correct me if i'm wrong, (maybe we should start another poll) the worst 3 songs in the history of music ALL can be attributed to Paul McWhatever for releasing them.
1) Mull Of Kintyre
2) The Girl Is Mine
3) Ebony And Ivory

John Lennon, god rest his soul, had a smidgeon of talent fer sure, but that doesn't save the beatles from being the most overrated band in history...SHIT, The Doors were around at the same time and "Light My Fire" alone is better than the entire beatles collection!

p.s. Tool might not be for everybody, BUT, they are WAY more innovative and creative than the beatles, AND (more importantly) have an abundance of talent!

*awaits the inevitable onslaught of hate mail*

I didn't read more than the first couple of replies, but try and check this out:

And NeXTLiFE, I just read your reply while posting this; Haven't you heard that taste is different? Just because you don't like any of the Beatles songs, don't mean they're weren't talented and didn't produce music with quality. And saying they haven't influenced anything (whether it being good or bad) is downright untrue. Some death metal may not be influenced by them, but they're probably influenced by another band, who was influenced by them and so on, which ultimately means that Beatles is one of the most influencal bands of all time. This isn't just my opinion!
