Mudvayne?

it is a useless phrase, used as an ALL-PURPOSE Insult when someone doesn't have the mental capacity to pick out the individual problems with the music. besides which, we already established long ago on this forum that the term 'nu-metal' cannot be properly defined by anyone. Everyone'e idea of what 'nu-metal' is exactly is different, so it should be completely deleted from existence. got me?

and how many songs have you actually heard by them.

One is too many.

Dig was a big hit for them, they were on the telly and radio for a while with that, I can't stand them at all. Kerrang! hyped them to Hell then someone else comes out.

That Magazine is so funny, "The future of Metal" changes in every issue.

They said Funeral For A Friend were the next big thing and now Hundred Reasons are the next big thing.

But then again, only 12 year olds buy that anyway, impressionable Fuckwits.

I wasn not using it as an insult necessarily, and I wasn't saying it because I don't have the 'mental capacity' to think of a criticism.

There's no need to get so elitist.

elitist? hah the ones who actually use 'nu-metal' are the elitists because it is used more to criticize than it is to compliment bands. I'm no elitist here. I'm just sick & tired of hearing everything someone doesn't like get labeled as being 'nu-metal'.

The word "Shit" seems to work just as well.

At the end of the day there are only 2 catergories, good and bad, if it falls into bad, then who cares what they are or are called, you don't like it, so why bother with it.

But calling something Nu-Metal is funny.

Nu-Metal was the big thing, and now it's not all these bands are like "No , weren't not Nu-Metal, we're Emo-Goth-Metal-Core"

I can see why people call something Nu-Metal as an insult, it deserves to be, I once heard a Swedish guy say that Nevermore were a Nu metal band that ripped off SOAD, so I can see where Nocturnal Sun is coming from.

Thanks, but I would rather not agree with a half-wit who thinks Burzum sucks because it is a one man band. Take your brain cell and find some new friends.

Well as much as I was trying to play Devil's advocate here, at the end of the day, Nocturnal sun, your sig is a bit silly, because Nu Metal is a genuine term used to describe a genre of metal, I kid you not.

That's like saying.

"If you say Death Metal you are a twat"

So I am a bit puzzled.

okay then, define this "Nu-Metal" as you speak of. What are the SPECIFIC Characteristics of it?

and btw Necro Joe get your facts straight, dumbass. I dowloaded Burzum 2 weeks ago and even said on the thread you were looking at that I was wrong and he's not bad.

Can you not take this in - I was NOT saying Mudvayne are shit because they are 'nu metal'. I wasn't saying they were at all, but you still seem to think I was using it to bash them.

You would not say someone is stupid for saying something like "I don't like that band because they are death metal", that would just be seen as a matter of taste, but because the term 'nu metal' is a little too trendy for the likes of you, you have to outlaw it's use. How is the genre name nu metal any worse than "labelling" any other band into a genre, whether that genre can be described in black or white or not.

You do come across as very elitist, or else you wouldn't look down on the phrase nu metal in particular!

I don't understand you!

Definition of Nu Metal from a Nu Metal fan

Largely a media term, nu-metal is a blanket term applied to the recent wave of rap influenced hard rock bands, largely based in the continental United States. Guitars are heavily distorted, many of the riffs are muted, and hip-hop influenced bass grooves and percussion fill the sound out. Songs tend to be repetitious, built around cleaner low key sections and psuedo-death metal stop-go staccato riffing. The songs are generally short, structured along conventional pop lines, with typical verse/chorus vocal arrangements. The vocalist tend to snarl or shout their lyrics, with many bands making direct use of rap. The hip hop groove and repetitive guitar lines are staples of the genre. Lyrics are usually aggressively angry and nihilistic, whether minimal or explosive.

I found this one on my travels

A commercial genre of music taking elements from rap, techno, industrial, metal and rock. Widely popular amongst teenage airheads, beefcakes and steroid zombies. 'Bands' include Nickelback, Silverchair, Finger Eleven and Slipknot

You, I and everyone else on this fucking Hemisphere know what Nu-Metal is, so don't give me this "Nu-Metal doesn't exist, you just can't think of something to say"

Ok, I can think of plenty of things to say...

Disturbed: Singer sounds like someone being hit with a monkey, that terrible voice makes me sick

Linkin Park: Manufactured BOY-BAND

Korn: Gimmicky image and lyrics that mean nothing, I did like the odd Korn song back when I was a moron.

Slipknot: Admittedly, they have the marketing right, the kids eat it up, gimmicks work, but musically they should be a lot better considering there are 27 people in the band.

After just reading the posts...

How very presumptious to assume that I have heard only one song, I have in fact heard a whole album and still thought it was very shit.

So no more of that, you presumptious person you.

Eh?

And since when does musical taste have anything to do with intelligence? If you were a moron then, you are still a moron now.

Mudvayne barely fit this description AT ALL.
