the new Anathema album "A Natural Disaster" is fantastic I was just wondering if anyones managed to have a sneak hear... Those who need constaint heavy guitars wont like it but if you like your melodies raw and real then you'll want to get this...

AngelinaBlackheim I second that it makes a change from the complexity of a lot of the underground bands, not that I don't love Katatonia, far from it, but its nice to chill out to something as great as this, very individual tracks and great simple experimentation..

come on.you can't be serious.try and listen to it right after alternative 4.it sucks.i have downloaded the cd and keep listening to it the last 2 weeks and i still don't like it.i was a huge fan of theirs and kind of liked AFDTE but this is too much.take "balance" for example.if noone told me what it was and i heard it somewhere i would say it is something off Radiohead's cd's.even vincent's voice is downright RADIOHEAD

they try to sell more cd's by playing music that doesn't suit them.they said they wanted something simpler.compare the new cd with Judgement which was recorded almost live.....where are songs like "deep","forgotten hopes","make it right","judgement","anyone, anywhere","one last goodbye"???????????

I thought some of the things that Danny said prior to the albums release were a bit strange. Stuff like: "[The album] should appeal to some of the Anathema fans I am sure. It's a decent album, but not one that will be repeated, the next one will be taking a different approach."

Strange thing to say when you've just recorded a new album, innit? As if he wasn't really satisfied...

Anyway, I've listened to some of "A Natural Disaster" and I am mightily indifferent. I haven't found much interest in post-Judgement Anathema and this album doesn't change my mind really. I thought the vocoder vocals in one of the songs were pretty out of place.

Vincent's cut his hair too you know. When people cut their hair it's only downhill from there. :D

Oh come on.. that's just pathetic. If they don't play music you like, does it mean immediately that they're sell-outs? I'm glad they try new things and keep progressing. And if they really wanted to sell more albums (with -as you said- radiohead songs) why would they put a song like 'pulled under...' on the album? I've listened to a natural disaster for a few times now, and while it ain't yet a 5 out of 5 album for me, it's pretty damn close and maybe more spins will get it there. I don't hear any forced commercialism there.

And conserning that balance, I love the song. You personally hear some radiohead influences, and that's all right. It's kinda impossible to make music totally rid off influences nowadays, tho there's a huge difference being influenced or rip-off and anathema sure ain't the latter. did you even listen the song all the way? when the guitars kick in, radiohead is far - far - away... and even tho vinny sounds like thom york to you, I doubt he's been practising his imitation skills lately. He just happens to have that kind of voice, it ain't too hard to understand that, eh?

They're on the album called Judgement.

oh. and if you don't like the album, fine. delete it from your hd. but if you still wanna give it a change, buy the damn thing, will you?

definitely. as for me at least.

even if the trial song causes mixed feelings. especially concerning Vinnie's vocals, like he doesn't want to articulate a word.. :|

but i had the same with "fine day.." and now i just love this album.

I adore Anathema, as much as Katatonia

AFDTE is my third fave album of all time (just behind LFDGD and BWP), But A Natural Disaster is a masterpiece in it's own right. I love everything about it!!!

Just listen to "Flying" you will find what Anathema is all about within that one track I think :)

I'm really sad that albums like The Silent Enigma will never made again :erk:

If the "trial song" you refer to is Are You There?, that's Danny singing. My opinions on A Natural Disaster are still mixed, although I do think it is often highly creative and ethereal in nature.

It's not a bad cd at all, I was hugely disappointed with AFDTE, i thought maybe 4 songs on that album were excellent and the rest were a bit too drab for them. On A Natural Disaster, thegets atmosphere is back and the songs are a bit more interesting but loosely tied together which in turn avoids any real "hits" IMO i really like the album but I doubt I'll love it like I did Eternity, Alt4 and Judgement. I agree with the person who likens them to Radiohead, I don't know why they are going for this "sound" that has been copied to death but it's not bad, just different. I'm just wondering if they are going to persue this path or try and come up with some better individual songs (I really miss the Anathema songs that just explode at a certain point) Like i said before as for an album it's good but katatonia's Viva blows it away.

humm i heard the album i think 3 or 4 times and got tired,it's like if i hear it before,i don't see a progress in the album,is not a bad cd but i want more from that band
