New Metallica?

Yeah I think there's a fair chance that it will end up sucking even though the clips sound good.

But I'm really hoping that this really will be like the Black album. I think it's got potential. There're a few albums coming out this year that are important to me and I'm really hoping they will deliver...

As for the old Metallica/Megadeth debate.... old news. Megadeth was never as good as Metallica. Sure in the latter 90s Megadeth's stuff was better by default, but Mustaine's always been weak compared to Metallica until then.

Metallica > Megadeth on the first three albums, but RIP rapes AJFA imo

CTE, Youth and CW run circles around The Black Album, Load and Reload.

TSHF rapes the shit out of St. Anger

Perfect response to this thread. They always fucking sucked imo, Mustaine has always pwnt these whinging cunts. Fuck 'em, they should quit asap.

you're an idiot. I can't take anyone seriously if they say the 80s MegaDave albums are better than Metallica, never been wow'd by a single MegaDave album but they are good thrash.

Rick Rubin doesn't write Slayers music boob.

he doesn't write metallica's music either... the point which you clearly missed is that people are hopeful that rick rubin as metallica's new producer will save them... it didn't save slayer so why would it save metallica?

FYPSIQFT.

CW and Risk are both made of the same utter fucking fail later used to create St. Anger. CTE is slightly better than the Black Album. Load and Reload are more interesting and creative than Youthanasia.

Oh, wow, very impressive. It's better than some guys banging on trash cans yodeling about how they're pissed off. TSHF is better by default - it's still a really mediocre album.

The popular conception is that Bob Rock was a corrupting influence on Metallica, which he certainly was, though that wasn't the source of their massive problems. Rick Rubin did great stuff with TRHCP and Slayer, so hopefully the change of producers, some new blood with Trujillo, and letting Kirk actually play guitar will have a positive effect.

FYPSIQFT.

It's a close call there actually. I could go either way depending on the weather

How the fuck could you call songs like Trust and She-Wolf fail? Srsly.

CTE is definitely better than The Black Album, but by how much is debatable. I could give you Load being more interesting and creative (at times), but it's just a big  at Reload being more interesting than Youthanasia. Songs like Black Curtains, Addicted to Chaos and Elysian Fields easily rape about 85% of the songs on Reload

TSHF is the best thing 'Deth has put out since CW. That's the closest they've come to going back to thrash (and no, UA is a shitpile and shouldn't be considered anywhere near thrash) TWNAH is mediocre (though there are a few good tracks on it) and I haven't heard Risk yet, but it probably sucks, although Prince of Darkness is a decent track.

Yeah.

Because they're shitty songs. Sorry.

Black Curtains, Blood Of Heroes, and Though I Knew It All are decent, but not particularly good, mostly due to an unpleasantly flat production. On Reload, I just dig the overall vibe.

i.e. it beats Risk and The World Needs A Hero. Oh, wow.

UA is:
A: Good
B: Undeniably thrash, regardless of quality
TWNAH is mediocre (though there are a few good tracks on it)
No there aren't.

Wrong

and UA by a long shot

UA is:
A: Good

No it isn't. Only two songs on that album are memorable at best, those being Sleepwalker and Washington Is Next!

Half that album is just a re-hash of riffs used by Dave or some other band

The rest sound like TWNAH leftovers

B: Undeniably a shit pile

FYP

No there aren't.

Dread and the Fugitive Mind, Burning Bridges

Agree to disagree here.

Just checking here, we are talking about United Abominations, right? The album, not the song.

And Burnt Ice. And Gears Of War. Etc.

Good riffs. Which is more than I can say for TSHF. It's not original, but it's better than anything since RIP.

The rest sound like TWNAH leftovers
No.

Dread and the Fugitive Mind, Burning Bridges
A bad version of Sweating Bullets and...I can't even remember Burning Bridges, it's so uninteresting.

Fail.

I was thinking about this the other day while hearing Peace Sells. Even back in the day (80's) I would grow tired of a given Metallica album, but I can never recall being bored by Peace Sells.

Old Metallica wrote a lot of great songs which had a lot of personality, and they had their magical moments, but I would submit that Peace Sells has more magic than two old Metallica albums. Add Killing is my Business and you have the first three Metallica albums owned.

There are too many songs I am indifferent towards on Metallica 2 and 3. Kill em all is pretty solid throughout, but I may like individual songs from 2 and 3 better than those on Kill em All.

If I could only have one Megadeth or Metallica album it would be Peace Sells. If I could have two I might add one of the first three Metallicas (not sure which). If I could only have three, it would be Killing, Peace and a Metallica.
