Well, you can damn near download ANYTHING just about dude, so it's essentially a different way of doing the same thing. If I burn someone a mixed CD-R of Massacra albums & they listen to it they would be enjoying all their music without paying for it. You can still take their CD-R full of albums that was sent to you by a friend & listen to it & choose not to buy the albums after that if you don't want to. Only difference is someone is paying for a CD-R, but the band will not see any of the $0.20 for that CD-R.

Jeez, I'm tired. Yawn. We don't need to talk about it, but I still will occasionally use DLing as a means to listen to bands I would not hear otherwise, same as you.

But the point is to buy the music after listening to it.

yes, its a good way to sample bands. Otherwise I could have spent hundreds on stuff I hated, due to different musical tastes from those who recommend bands. There are benefits to buying the full CD once you find a band that suits your flavor. Without the internet many bands would have never been discovered, so its just another thorned rose. Music stores are crap nowadays, at least in the area I live. Nothing like it was in the 80's. Far fewer and they are small, or a small section of some book store that carry little more than popular music.

Music stores around here are pure crap. The most obscure band you can find at any of them is Children of Bodom. If I want to buy CDs I always order them. You can find better deals on Amazon as well, providing they have what you're looking for.

But from my understanding they send each other the CD-rs with about one or two songs from each band on it as opposed to entire albums.

Naw dude, they were loading CD-rs with entire albums. You can get between 5-12 ALBUMS on a CD-R depending on the bit-rate.

You aren't looking at the right stores then. There are stores here that sell shit like diSEMBOWELMENT and Death Yell. It's not a chain store though.

No, I live in Orlando & you live in Cincinnati dude. There are no good record stores here that I know of that sells anything really unheard of & I've lived here 23 years. Of course CoB being the only thing here is an understatement, but it's not far off at all. I've seen Cephalic Carnage, Therion & a Sunn O))) album at FYE, but that's about as far as the scope goes here at a record store. Anything metal-y & you have to order it online. It's cheaper than dealing with stores anyway.
