Nu Metal singers- Are they a major reason for Nu-Metals Popularity?

Ok, this is going a little off-topic, but I am from Maine as well.

Indeed it is hell. :(

Support local metal, and yeah, to get away from here would be a godsend, hopefully my band gets signed and we get the hell out of dodge.

About Nu-metal vocals. Has anyone heard of Trapt? HEE HEE FUCKIN HEE! What a pussy, just like most of the local "metal" bands around here, "Hey dudes, Disturbded is doing scat in their songs, let's do it too!"
Fucking pathetic.

Trapt isn't local, but they do suck. "Still Frame" is the most annoying, whinny song I have heard in a long while.

*Pukes*

What the fuck is up with mispeling your band name anyways? Just let's people have a pre-judgement of you being a moron before they even hear the music.

They suck anyways, musically.

:tickled: Looks like I made a boo-boo with my spelling too! hahahah.

haha I saw Trapt live (believe me I didn't go to see them). Talk about boring. I really do enjoy System of a Down and like Serj's vocals too. I can't think of many others like that, who I do like though...maybe the vocalist for Corporate Avenger. Are they considered numetal?

How about American Head Charge's singer? He's quite clearly overdosed on Angel Dust-era FNM, but still, he can hold a note... also, Manning from (now-defunct) British nu-metallers Vacant Stare - he actually went and got singing lessons before they released their debut, and it seemed to make all the difference.

I don't really like nu metal vocals, most of the time I just hear it as whining, though I think some do have good voices.

About the Disturbed vocalist, I saw headbangers ball last week, and they did a tribute for him at the end, being a year since his death, and I saw him with Darkthrone, Burzum shirts on. And in pictures i've seen him with Bathory and others..I've also heard in the Disturbed DVD he talks about being a big black metal fan..how does someone liking such extreme(and good) taste, end up being a vocalist to a nu metal band?

I think you are referring to DROWNING POOL, since the vocalist for Disturbed is alive and well....for now....

Hahahah, for now...

Also SOAD did a spiffy 'cover' of Snowblind by good ole' Sabbath. :)

Quite different from the original but still cool.

Now that I think about it, I do think SOAD is good. Bah to those who say otherwise!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

the guy from disturbed probably is a big metal fan, but since hes making twinkies(i.e. nu-metal) and knowing most ppl in the metal scene wish he was dead than maybe he can go fuck himself and give us his good cds....well then again there is also the fact that he could be a huge poser trying to break into the metal scene by wearing shirts of popular black metal bands like burzum, darkthrone, bathory and such, we'll never know

the guy was real good friends with phil anselmo, it always seemed to me like he was trying to emulate him. Poser.

with that said, vocalists in general are over-rated and can be easily replaced. As for nu metal vocalists they fuckin blow serj is a rip off that fag from fagsmack is a rip off jonathan davis sounds like a pussy the guy from disturbed does that annoying animal noise shit and corey taylor's vocals arent that hard to do.

WHOOPS, I meant Drowning Pool, whatever, same nu metal shit ;p. Point was, I still don't understand how a black metal fan can end up singing in such..crap.
Well, I'd think - I'd think - that it was his decision. And ultimately, it was his taste, too - rarely does a guy say that the music he makes sucks donkey balls.

A lot of people get irritated by other people's tastes, so you're not alone :). A lot of people asked me with all the disgust they could gather in themselves: 'how can you listen to System Of A Down, Disturbed, Slipknot, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Stone Sour and other shitty bands along with Hate Eternal, Dark Funeral, Ephel Duath, Dark Tranquility, Alastis, etc. ??' Well, it's a taste. And it's being tolerable if someone has one that is different from yours....

It depends. There are bands that have good singers in all aspects. Take a look:
Stone Sour - Corey Taylor's voice is great, BUT... his voice was much more melodic and light, more suited to rock than anything in 1994 with Stone Sour, before they got as big as they are now, Slipknot sorta distorted his voice after years of screaming, studio it doesnt sound much, but its much more raw live. Anyway, If you ever download stone sour - tar poo or stone sour - i can't believe. You will see what I mean, I'll probably put them on my site, since they are only demos sooner or later anyway. The music even sonds differemt its not simple backgrounds, drumbeats and a riff thrown in here like you've probably heard from Get Inside, Inhale and other Stone sour songs. Great riffs, sometimes slow music, some times pretty fast, catchy aswell, great vocals.. blah blah... anyway, if it was down to vocals they would have been signed a long time ago but they wherent.

disturbed started off with a growlish vocie aswell, Linkin Park always had melody and rap toghether, Mudvayne started off with growls and then into singing, slipknot started off with growls and screams, then they got into melodic chorus's. This doesnt make numetal I dont think, I think what makes numetal is well... the commercialisation of it.

If you where to put a band like Arch enemy or old In Flames on the mainstream and charts like numetal bands, they would be just as popular.

but theres a difference between commercialization of bands making them nu metal, if arch enemy was in the mainstream as well and since it would become commercialized that means the nu metal as well? i think not since in flames and arch enemy have been around longer then slipknot, mudvayne, linkin park, disturbed and the rest of the nu metal bands, what makes them nu metal is the music they play, since all of these bands have a certain similarity between them in their music, the catchyness, the mellow voice, rapping, the boring, simple song structure all makes them similar

and i doubt arch enemy and in flames would be as popular as the nu metal crap, based on the fact that neither of these bands is that catchy, and the vocals arent all nu metaled out, though in flames is becoming catchy and i really think theyve lost all their creativity since reroute to remain came out

"Sydrome of a Down" is more like it.

People have been conditioned to enjoy sentimental, sappy vocal performances and nu(un) metal comes through.

These bands are angsty and thus appeal to directionless, depressed teens. They're not complicated structurally and they require little thought. Diluted, fecal music fit for mass consumption.

You're mostly right, but don't let your own views blind yourself to the same kind of ignorance. There are plenty of 'true metal' bands who write far simpler music than one or two nu-metal bands. Though I can only think of one..... still, there's just as much underground metal that is far from structurally complex.

He's not. He's under the impression that their debut album (The Sickness) is 'the best-selling underground album ever'.

Yeah. An informed metal fan would have to be joking to say that, and david draiman is far too egotistical to be pranking.
