That's because our minds have evolved to be carnivorous, but our bodies have not yet caught up. Our digestive systems are still that of an herbivore, as are our nails, teeth, etc. We have not evolved into carnivores yet, so technically we are still at the bottom of the food chain somewhere. The only thing that gets us anywhere are our minds and our weapons. If it was just your body against a tiger's body. You'd be dead meat.

Uh, well if you're defining the food chain in terms of tooth structure instead of what the animals actually eat, then I guess I can't argue with you. That's not what "food chain" means to me, however.

Also, don't pull the "brute strength" argument for this, because there are herbivores we couldn't fight with our bare hands either - elephants and rhinocerii, for example.

Here's a good website that is easy to understand for you: John Coleman-Comparative Anatomy and Taxonomy

Who is this guy? An actual scientist, or just someone with a vegan agenda? When I read statements like "cattle, which are herbivorous ruminents may eat many insects while they feed" and "a pet cat may eat bread and margarine" as arguments against opportunistic feeder theory, I have to wonder.

Also, don't vegetarians/vegans usually need a number of non-plant foods in their diets (i.e. dairy, cereal) to make up for vitamin/protein deficiencies from not eating meat? Too bad Mr. Coleman doesn't talk about that.

By the way, I have nothing against eating meat. Most of the people here know that, I just have a problem with people pretending they're something they're not (carnivores) and the way in which we "raise" our livestock today.

I understand that, but you're not just arguing that humans aren't carnivores (we're not) - you're claiming we're actually herbivores, which sounds absurd to me.

I don't think anybody claimed to be a carnivore, but man has been omnivorous for a pretty fucking long time.

Why do they have to come up with such retarded clothing for models to wear in photo shoots? Just photograph her in the bikini for christ's sake.

What the fuck? No. Are you seriously asking that or is that sarcasm? It's so ridiculous it must be... I can't tell though.

Humans are herbivorous; that means we survive well off of just plant foods. Carnivores need to eat meat. I guess you could classify us as omnivorous as well, except our digestive tracts and such don't do well with meat.

I've been a vegan for 9 years, I am very healthy, I look healthy, my cheeks are always pink and I have a full head of hair. I eat a balanced diet, are you going to tell me that I'm wrong?

edit: Cereal is not a non-plant food you stooge, it's made from grains. Okay you must have been joking, I am a moron.

You never hear about it because they are overwhelmingly poor urban black females that don't have access to acceptable care. You should be fine.

No I'm talking about births in hospitals. Deaths through C-sections and drugs like Cytotec....and the obstetritian's mistakes. Which they sure seem to make a fucking ton of these days.

Since the dawn of time mankind has hunted for meat are you gonna tell me thats wrong? Or is it natural instinct? Veggies make me laugh they are constantly validating the way they eat, nobody gives a shit what you eat just get on with it. I respect your choice to be Vegan but Veggies do tend to sound like ex-smokers or reformed alcholics ie. preachy.

As Denis Leary said " Meat tastes like murder, and murder tastes pretty damn good"

yeah, we can blame low education standards for that. anyone can get a job in a hospital these days...

Calm down there. On the protein/vitamin deficiency question, this is something I typically hear when vegetarianism is discussed (including by vegetarians themselves), so I figured there was some significance to it. I mentioned cereal, by the way, because it's not just plant matter - the manufacturers put tons of extra vitamins and shit in it, thus it could conceivably take the place of various meat/dairy foods.

From my understanding, most vegans have to plan their diet somewhat carefully to avoid vitamin deficiencies - hence the popularity of stuff like tofu, tempeh, and soymilk among vegans. I've read that vitamin B12 is particularly hard to find, and that a lot of soymilk distributors actually put extra B12 in their products.

My point is that you don't become vegan simply by going out into a pasture and chewing grass. If humans were actually herbivores, it shouldn't be as hard as it is to find an adequate plant diet.
