So what if our physiology isn't carnovore-like? That doesn't make us herbivores. Great job with that example.

Um...yes. What we're made of is very important. :Smug:

According to this, you don't get B12 simply from eating plants with dirt on them. Hopefully you're not trying this yourself.

And our bodies don't simply have an inexhaustible source of B12. You can read here that these stores can be depleted in several years without sufficient B12 intake.

Yeah. YEARS. It takes YEARS to deplete it. It's incredibly rare! That's what I just fucking said. Everyone living in the developed world is able to get B12 without a problem. The whole B12 thing is exaggerated a million times over just like protein is when it comes to vegetarianism.

It's a very valid concern for anyone who takes up a diet which the vast majority of humans don't follow. Would you actually be able to stay healthy without soybean products? How many herbivores do you think need to eat soybeans to maintain a healthy diet?

You are incredibly frustrating... The vast majority of humans ARE vegetarian! Jesus Christ! Most people in this world can't afford meat!!! Are you fucking kidding me? is this a joke??? 2/3 of the worlds population is vegetarian. Look at Indian food, look at Thai, Chinese----Much of it is consistant of very little, if any meat and cheese. Most people can't afford meat. Meat is for the wealthy and oppulant.

Your ignorance is astounding, honestly. And yes I could live without a fucking soybean! It's just one bean! There are many others similar to it. Black beans, navy beans, white beans, chick peas, kidney beans, lima beans, fava beans, so on and so on. Remember----there are substitutes upon substitutes for every kind of food, every kind of plant. That is nature's way of assuring us proper nutrition.

Yeah, so not having a carnivore's physiology makes us herbivores? We have adaptations of both.

You can downplay it all you want, but there's still a reason why a bunch of vegan organizations warn people about B12 deficiency. I'm not just pulling this out of my ass.

Shit like this is what makes me think you're not actually trying to have a serious debate with me, but rather shooting off your biased opinions because you want to feel justified. Insulting my intelligence is not going to win you any arguments.

From my understanding, most people in the world at least consume some kind of dairy products. A lot of the ones who are living on primarily 'vegan' diets are probably the same ones who are suffering from malnutrition in third-world countries.

And I apologize for fixating on "just one bean", but I think it still serves to illustrate how specialized the vegan diet is. Tofu/tempeh/soymilk/etc. are popular among vegans for a reason, right? Or maybe you don't live off of any soybean products, and I'm just hallucinating this whole trend.

I don't understand----What do you have against the soybean? And why do you keep bringing it up?

Thai food is very nutritious and there is very little meat in it if any and no dairy products. You could live off thai food alone and be healthy.

edit: Same with Indian food.

Have against it? I'm just trying to show that it's used as a substitute for the meat and dairy foods that vegans swear off eating. Do you not agree that soy products are a part of just about every vegan diet?

The main thing I've been trying to argue this whole time is that herbivory isn't just second nature to humans. We have a long history of omnivory, one which seems to have either produced or coincided with a degree of physiological divergence from most herbivores. I'm not trying to say it's impossible for humans to live solely off of plant matter, but to suggest that it's what we're designed to do is taking it a little far.

Same with Indian food.

Like what? I have Indian friends and there are only Indian Buddhists who abstain from meat completely.

As for the 2/3 of the world comment, any evidence, Wikipedia? Or just as I said before a preachy Vegan?

Most of the veggies/vegans I know are just the same, trying to justify their choice of diet with hocus-pocus facts and figures, usually sourced from sprout eating moron with a health shop(usually a charlatan).

I need to get better at demanding evidence from people when I'm in an argument with them. Most of the time it feels like I'm the one doing all this damn internet research because they made some outlandish claim.

At least I'm more educated on veganism now as a result of all that research. :)

I love Indian food.... with MEAT. Chicken tikka ftw. It seems like less than half of all Indian dishes are vegetarian or vegan, at least in the many Indian restaurants I've been to here. The one good vegetrian part of Indian food is nan and pratha (flatbreads).

^amen, indian punjabi food > all, and if u must know the meat/tikka stuff isn't native to our country, rather something i think we owe to the partition. most of the stuff here is veg. unless at the coasts.

Just got back from my second baseball game of the season (and of this weekend).

Won. I went 1 for 2 with a single, two steals, and a run. Sweet.
