i dont know if the rest of the world is getting nba playoff coverage, but it starts this weekend... 40 games in 40 nights... greatest show on earth... fuck yeah ill be in heaven soon...

how so.

EDIT: Mate, because the scores are so ludicrous - like 98-96 - I mean, it comes down to one or two basket differences between teams over a game that long and with so many baskets called. It's just a trifle too repetitive for me to get into, to be honest. Also, despite being pretty tall, I suck at it big style, where as I'm not bad as a defender at football (note: it's not soccer, it's football).

i mean, even a defensive oriented team like the Spurs has more flash-bang-wtf-was-that moments than any soccer game i've ever seen.

Like I said, watch the world cup mate. The passion in the games, especially from the quarter final stages will produce flair, grit, and outragious goals. Brazil have some amazing skills, but England have a great team at the minute too...:kickass:

as opposed to awesome fucking scores like 2-1 or 0-0.... so much fun...

When the goals come mate, you really celebrate them, as theyre so rare in 90 minutes. 98 points? Fuck, after 4 or 5 baskets, who really gives a shit?

the point i'm making is, why is two teams producing 1 or 2 goals over the course of half a day more entertaining than TONY PARKER FROM THE BASELINE.... - AND OMFG HE CROSSES OVER STEVE NASH, NASH STUMBLES BACKWARDS, PARKER FOR THE LAYUP... AND THE FOUL!! HE MISSES THE FREETHROW - BUT DUNCAN GETS THE OFFENSIVE REBOUND!! PASSOUT TO BOWEN FOR 3 FROM THE CORNER - IT'S GOOD! SPURS BACK ON DEFENSE... OHHH!!!! DUNCAN WITH A MASSIVE BLOCK! AND HE PASSES TO GINOBILI FOR THE FAST BREAK... OHHHH!!! HUGE DUNK IN THE FACE OF 7'6'' YAO MING!!! NOW THE INBOUNDS... AND MANU GINOBILI STEALS THE BALL FOR ANOTHER BIG DUNK!!!

that's entertainment.

edit: if steve nash and yao ming played for the same team...

No mate, that's a bunch of genetic freaks jumping.

Jumping = not that great a skill.

Bending a ball 40' over a defensive wall = a lot of skill. Anyway, I think this argument is always going to be a draw (albeit one I'm right about):kickass:

...into a goal the size of a small moving van. (i swear to fucking god i dont understand why there arent 20 point games...)

as opposed to throwing a ball 25'-30' into a goal 10 feet in the air that is only 2 or 3 inches wider than the ball...

oh, and if you put a hand in front of the ball it's called "goaltending" and they get the points anyway.

you (& soccer) lose.

Basketball is about hand / eye co-ordination, something that most of us have done since we could use our eyes and hands.

Football is about foot / eye co-ordination, and has a huge amount of tactics, other than "throw the ball at the basket". Wondered why loads of goals don't happen in well matched football games? Tactics - great defence equals out great offence, with tactics and skill making the difference. There is RARELY an effective defence in basketball, which is why the scores are so ludicrously high. Also, why is the game split into quarters? That's just queer.:kickass:

you couldn't even hit the backboard from a regulation 3-point line, much less put it in...

there is... it's called the Spurs...

there are offensive teams and defensive teams... a team like the Suns gives up an average of like 110 points a game, but scores an average of about 117 and takes about 15 thousand shots a game, and they play no defense, and thats what they do. their tactic is that they will make more shots by the final buzzer than the opponent.

my Spurs give up about 85 points a game average, and have some ungodly sick field goal %, and Bruce Bowen (defensive player of the year!!!) and Tim Duncan will fucking pwn your weak layups into block-hell. their tactic is that even if they have a crap shooting night, if they force the opponent into taking enough shitty fadeaway shots they'll hold them to fewer points than we get off of free throws and layups.

Also, why is the game split into quarters? That's just queer

college ball has 20-minute halfs. pro has 12 minute quarters cause most of the good players are in their late 20s/early 30s and so they get tired because THERES NO FUCKING STANDING AROUND IN BASKETBALL LIKE IN SOCCER!

Watch a professional international football match. The only person standing at any one time is the goalkeeper. The US asked to split football matches into quartes to include adverts on TV coverage (which is why Basketball is split into quarters, nothing to do with fitness), but unlike your bollocks sport, FIFA told them to fuck themselves. Most professional top flight strikers can do the 100m in times only just less comparable than sprinters (as shown on UK sport TV), which is more than your jumping giant freaks can manage.

Plus fyi I can throw 3 pointers. (On average, once a decade).

bullshit. 90% of the players spend 90% of the time never getting up to more than a moderate trot. but even our 300 pounders have to run in transition. there's shooters who can put it in from 35 feet (ray allen, kyle korver, michael redd), so if you dont run back on defense immediately you've got no chance.

cause even our commercials are more interesting...

tony parker (spurs point guard) is faster than anybody who has ever played soccer ever. i guaran*absofuckinglutely*tee it. off a steal it takes him < 3 seconds to cover the length of the court, and thats WITH the ball as opposed to running TO the ball. he's literally unguardable.

Wrong.

One of Wolves defenders ran 200m less than one second slower than the olympic record holder.

He was a DEFENDER.
