Are you talking about the links up top being too small? (user cp, etc.)

Some suggestions:
> The advertisement on top could go UNDER the navigation bar. Even if the length of the 'top' of the page increases, this won't take focus off the 'content' of the page itself and on the ad.
> The line that shows the location of the page. "Ultimate Metal Forum > The Music > General Metal Dis... ". This needs to be a slightly bigger font, like in the old theme. Much 'upward' navigation is done through this as far as nested forums are concerned.
Although I'm a fan of justified-width pages, I really like this design. The logo on top looks great.
Actually, I wasn't generalising my argument for it to be applicable to all metal there is out there. Yes, there are metal bands which do seek mainstream success. A lot of those (although not stereotypically kvlt) do achieve that, but they are not able to match it with much quality in my eyes, as compared to those who stick to just making good music and not caring about the rest (the more 'experimental' efforts out there).I agree, my explanation was purely from the perspective of the public. Art absolutely has a purpose for an artist, the purpose of expressing themselves. I just don't think art should be imbued with an inherent purpose for the people view/listening it by the artist himself. They can attach their own purpose to it if they choose to do so.
I don't really agree that the lack of seeking mainstream attention is something specific to metal at all though. And metal has its own share of mainstream oriented music that clearly is being made to sell rather than serve as a form of personal artistic expression.
I will agree to that. There probably is non-metal music that gets recognition for its musical brilliance and innovation (disputable).. I just haven't come across many true 'artists' that get the mainstream spotlight. I personally think I need to broaden my horizon and look for diversity in other genres as much.At best I think the aesthetics of metal lend themselves better to remaining underground because it is more visceral (loud, heavy, violent, etc.) which also makes it harder to get it to become "popular". But just because any given rock, electronic or hiphop album is accessible enough to be played on the radio for the mainstream public doesn't mean the artist made it with that intention. And most artists don't make it with that intention obviously, since only like *0.0001% of all music outthere actually gets radio airplay.
* I made that statistic up obviously, but you get the point.
