I believe it took him over 4 years to complete, even living up on the scaffolding and rarely ever coming down, only to eat and pee, etc. When he finally came down after it's completion it is said he was partially blind from spending 4 years of his life on his back on the scaffolding looking up while paint dripped in his eyes. It took him a while to get his sight back. And that he walked funny. =/

Or so they say... it's beyond incredible, regardless. One of the greatest creations of man. I really can't wait to see it myself someday.
