Getting at better at guitar steadily hasn't been a problem but I'm sure many guitar teachers would rip my playing apart and say I haven't learned time quite right, which is true. What's the hardest stuff you can play The Greys? Nile or Necrophasgist yet?

counting is important, if for no other reason than you need to know when to headbang. if you cant keep the beat, you cant headbang, and if you cant do that, youre not a real metalhead hehe

People have told me I pick way too hard as well, someone said if I was playing a gig I'd be exhausted because I do too much work.

The only counting I have to consciously do for drums has to do with repeats to hit all the transitions smoothly. And that's only until I know the song well enough to feel the changes coming.
I don't play with a metronome often enough, but playing with other people is a good substitute. It's even better in some ways.

I'm not into Necrophagist, but not even close to being that good. Their guitarist is probably trained/taught.
I could play a lot of stuff if shown or really wanted to spend time with tabs. I'm fast when it comes to playing so majority of metal music is not an issue.
I have more trouble with chords and just weird positions. Something like Opeth to me is leaps in front of say Necrophagist, sure their guy can thred but that's not exactly interesting to me.

Lately i'm just into chords and non typical approach to making metal,etc... I don't care how fast someone can solo,etc... who fuckin cares. I don't even really like technical death metal really. Nile bores the crap out of me.

man i have the worst luck trying to order patches. rockabilia is fucking slow. and they still owe me a hypocrisy patch.
im also trying to get an orphaned land patch, their site said they would send instructions for payment. but no such email yet.
