I notice that even if not using rythmn chords in my music that learning them and knowing makes me a better musician. I thought rythmn chords were the first things that people learn anyways, you know like I think the E chord on the first 3 strings and going up with progressions. Who the fuck does not enjoy strumming chords on a guitar anyways. You can't just tremolo pick all the time!!!

What if you had to join a band and just know tremolo picking and power chords you would be fucked. chords are very important

Your growls are waaaaay quiet. You're like Karl Sanders from Nile, you're just exhaling into the mic. You need to learn how to integrate your diaphragm and project.
Quiet? I just did them now and I know my roommate can hear them, how loud should they be? They're a little higher than speaking voice I guess now.

Not really. Who plays a guitar and counts ?

that's the dumbest thing I have heard.

yes you can! how many shitty DM bands have made a career out of it.

in any case, when i teach, i NEVER start with chords. kids have a hard time trying to figure out how to place their hand on the neck, let alone jamming their fingers in akward positions.

as for me, i use minimal chords. mostly E and A minor. and a couple dissonant ones i figured out

I'm sure some solid death metal guitarists can hammer on an acoustic guitar,etc.. and do that in spare time. It's more that certain style require certain techniques, this is not an excuse in general to not try and learn all you can. Obviously in death metal rythmn chords don't make any sense and it's more based on power chords, single notes/scales.

For example sometimes when people start playing guitar right away just want to play and learn metal. You just have to learn first you know. There are a good ammount of metal musicians that are obviously not dipshits that probably find things like this hilarious

^My friend does, he taps his foot and counts that way.

different stokes for different folkes

I don't have trouble with timing or memorizing things until like 8 songs and then I just get more into a stressed situation rather than trying to figure out ways for timing and memorizing. I just up my practicing more.

counting is important, but if you have a decent drummer youre in the clear. my only problem is counting how many times i play the riff before switching. and thats just me paying more attention to the fans than the music hahaha. they dont mind, im the fuckin bass player

I'm to the point I can play riffs the same way same ammounts of times, time change,etc.. without thinking to much about it. I can make a riff play it once and know it. I have a friend who plays drums and bass and recently started playing guitar(around a year,2) and is always bitching about things like this and I just don't know what to say and don't get why it's so fucking hard . I never really thought about saying count!! ,etc..

Maybe my music is not complex or technical enough or something.

Counting is for noobs. You should be counting if you don't have a feel for the time signature you're playing in or if your timing sucks. But if your timing sucks you should really just be playing along to a metronome. The only time I count or tap out a beat is if I'm reading off of sheet music and trying to figure out an unorthodox rhythmic pattern. Otherwise, I'll just play along to a metronome if I want to make sure I'm playing cleanly. I don't understand why an experienced player would need to count all the time if they've already developed a good sense of rhythm.

The only time I count is when I have to hold out a note for 4+ beats in choir or when I'm sightreading, other than that... fuck it.

even shitty brutal death metal guitarists probably don't even have you to count. you must just suck beyond

If it's such a big deal just get guitar lessons or something. Counting,etc.. is obviously not helping blue wizard for example!!!

kurk cobain probably did not even count and he was a drug addict.

I probably have a 105 IQ and don't have to count. fucking retards!
