opeths next album

I think it would be awesome if they would completely expand and change their sound. Like, add strings, some woodwind instuments, hell maybe even horns. Kind of like in a King Crimson way. That would be great. And it would be cool to see more songs in the tradition of Isolation Years, shorter, lyrical, emotional songs.

Nice car minus the spoiler.
What is it ?

2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR (aka EVO MR) (link is the IX, the new 2006 version, mine is VIII). Basically a street going WRC rally car. :) Edmunds writeup.

I also think this is a good point. (Although I could argue about the short songs part.)

It would be awesome if they made like, a 10 minute emotional song! (Not unlike To Bid You Farewell)

- I wouldn't mind it.

I'd like them to steer away from the warm prog sound and go back to the folk sound of their earlier work (MAYH/Still Life). But that's just a personal preference and I know that they hate to re-visit their old material so I can totally understand why they don't. But that is the style I like best.

A part of that "sound" on the earlier albums is becuase of the production and the (now dated) equipment in the studio.

Well, maybe they could get a studio with similar production to get the old sound back for a bit?

Opeth changes a lot, every album. (Except Orchid and Morningrise.) Who knows what the hell they will sound like next?

- It'd be interesting

Maybe the next album should be more like Orchid. As in good music instead of Shit Reveries. The mad beats in Shit Reveries were totally non chill dude. SMP 420.

I wouldn't mind seeing shorter songs again, MAYH style. I just think it would be an interesting change. Honestly the only thing I really desire for sure is more of the acoustic guitar style on Morningrise. That's something I don't think there can ever be enough of.

I like In Limbow's idea of adding a greater variety of instruments. I have a passion for string arrangements, and I think they would fit so well in some of Opeths mellower, more epic sections (not on the heavy parts though, I don't really want Opeth becomeing a cheesy 'orchestral metal' band). But then, how would they convey this live? So, I doubt that will happen.

I love the way Mike writes. But perhaps it might be interesting to work with someone different, perhaps on a song or through the whole album. Maybe have a guest musician or two, see if the ideas they might bounce off one another may be cool. Just look at the Wilson influence! I'd like to see maybe a progression like that again.

But hell, as long as it's Opeth, it'll fucking pwn ALL of us !!!!!!!!
