There's this amazing thing called investment and living within reasonable means. I have no sympathy for any of the wealthy who can't/won't do this.As representatives of the lower income scale, you're obviously going to say that.

The point is, that money cannot create happiness unless you are below the poverty level. If they can provide a BMW for their family, then they can certainly provide shelter, education, food, and anything in between, anything more then this is not going to make them happier. Helping out a fellow citizens, is not going to kill these people, or send them to skid row.
Your argument in essence boils down to: "The rich can afford to give money to the poor, therefore they should be required to."
But of course the really poor people in this world don't live in the US. Even the homeless here are better off than a large portion of Africa. Shouldn't the rich of this country actually be sending their required tithe abroad?
