I was listing straight up black metal, Sarcofago don't fit into that category. Not for me, anyway.
Good list, but you've forgotten Ulver's Bergtatt! That is one epic album.
Ulver is good, but the I had to stop listening somewhere! I could have gone on forever!
Well, not quite.
I'd not heard this before... total rubbish!

I think black metal is an acquired taste for a lot of people, and for a lot of people they find that they love it straight away. For me, it was the latter. Though (like all genres of metal) there is a massive contrast between the good bands, and the bad, the innovative and the interesting, and the generic and boring.
Black metal receives a lot of negative criticism, I think the most out of all the genres within metal. Mainly due to the vocal style, the average black metal production (or lack of!) and the theatrical element of it, which a lot of people find amusing.
Regardless of what the black metal elitists think, people who enjoy black metal are not better or any more "true" than those who think it's rubbish, or don't "get it", or whatever. I'm sure none of you need me to tell you that at the end of the day, it's just down to taste, and what you enjoy.
