The Barack Obama review/critique thread

edit: I have no problem with him raising taxes on the rich, though. The wealth disparity in this country is sickening, and we've gotten by with much higher tax rates on the wealthy in the past. I wish he would kill that part of the Bush tax cuts now, and not wait two more fucking years for money to continue pooling up at the top.

1. I take it that you tacitly assume that the rich and poor in this country are relatively static categories (I say that because much of the importance that attaches to income disparity disappears if said assumption is dropped). What entitles you to this assumption? Even if there is a glaring disparity between the top such and such percent and the bottom such and such percent for a given snapshot of time that does not take into account the change in income for people in the respective categories through time. Furthermore, it doesn't take into account important factors such as age.

2. How do you know that raising taxes on the rich won't inhibit economic growth, and if you don't know that it won't, then why would you want to do such a thing now of all times?

3. Assuming that some given class of people doesn't simply evade excessive taxation, how does raising taxes on said class of people raise purchasing power over time? After all, we want standards of living to rise.

4. It is precisely the rich, the people that so many want to raise taxes on, who have the wherewithal to evade excessive taxation.

Why don't we focus on things that might actually happen? Sure, it'd be lovely if the entire global system of monetary exchange was completely renovated, but it won't ever happen ever ever ever, so I'm more interested in realistic things that may make small changes for the better.

It's funny that you say that, since monetary policy has undergone drastic changes over the course of the 20th century alone.

For inquisitive minds, Alex Jones' latest:

[ame="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7886780711843120756"]The Obama Deception[/ame]

I realize most of this forum doesn't know who A.J. is / don't care for him, but this is a pretty good documentary.

No, he needs to show proof of HIS claims, and for the claims that he makes that really matter, he doesn't. Trust me, my brother listens to Alex Jones all the time and constantly makes me watch this shit. I'm fully aware of how he operates. Usually the only times he's right, it's either about something completely fucking obvious or he completely blows out of proportions its effects or importance. Because he's a businessman selling his brand.

Well of course he has to make a living at it to spend all his time on it. Standing outside hotels and government buildings with a bullhorn isn't normally a paying job (although of course radio/tv are). But what exactly has he blown out of proportion? Also, Gerald Celente is hardly a whack-job, and he gets plenty of face time on this documentary.

I find it amusing the "counter-conspiracy theory" out there that Jones is actually a CIA plant to stir up all possible dissenters for easy targeting. Whether it's true or not really makes no difference, since the stuff he is exposing is going to happen regardless of how much people protest. It's gone to far, at this point it is just being aware the train is coming as opposed to being blind-sided.

Watch End Game, read into some of his theory's.

edit: as for him trying to make money, he's publically said he doesn't care if people download his documentries for free, he wants the word to be spread.

"Not even worth it" means I don't fucking care enough to show how dots Alex Jones has drawn into the picture in order to be able to connect them just so you can see for yourself, and that applies equally to here and in private messages, in case that's hard to understand. Alex Jones is for the uninformed. He "reveals" things that are obvious to people who actually stay informed and are educated in order to get people to feed out of his hand, and then he mixes some crazy pills into the feed because he knows they'll eat it no matter what. Just like every conspiracy, there are seeds of truth, but he's connecting dots where there are no dots to connect. I'm not even convinced that he believes everything he says.
