The Doom Metal thread

I want some doom even more downcast and depressing than Mourning Beloveth. Does something like that exist?

The only thing I can of is Evoken-embrace the emptiness and quietus, but you have probably heard these.

Yes, I have heard them. I like Embrace the Emptiness and Quietus, but I can't get into Antithesis of Light for some reason.

I can not really get into it either. I don't think it sucks but it is more of something that just did not click with me. There is some past Evoken elements that are just not even there period.

anyone got trad doom recommendations for me?

I like/know already of:

Candlemass
Black Sabbath
Burning Saviours
Candlemass
Pentagram
Saint Vitus
Pagan Altar
Witchfinder General

I´m stubborn and nagging. Once again I say KRUX and especially the latest one simply called Krux ll. Peter Stjärnvind (Entombed) on drums, Leif Edling, Jörgen Sandström, Mats Lev´en, Calle Westholm, Fredrik Åkesson. (Talisman, Candlemass.) Much better and more interesting than Candlemass!

Dax Riggs sounds like Scott Stapp of Creed. I think I'll pass...

I don't think all clean vocals are bad...I like the nasally vocals of Pagan Altar. now those are good clean vocals!

Dax Riggs sounds nothing like Scott Stapp. Listen to any of Dax's clean vocal songs(Scream of the Butterfly, Bleed Me an Ocean to name a few) and you can tell that hes completely different from Scott. I'm ok with you not liking Acid Bath, just comparing Scott Stapp to Dax is a sin.

btw, Acid Bath has the best lyrics..ever:worship:

I just don't like them. cheesy 5th grade level poetry coupled with "nu-rockisms" diluting the NOLA sludge sound.

MINOTAURI should do you good... "If you love old school doom metal in the 80's Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Pagan Altar mode, then Minotauri are a band that brings that Finnish touch to it." (http://www.hellridemusic.com)
Their last album (simply titled as "II") will be released in May.

Anyone heard Gnaw Their Tongues?

Kind of an Avant Garde Black Funeral Doom...thing. The atmosphere has a quality similar to Axis of Perdition's ambient/noise excursions. I'm still trying to figure out whether or not it's too ridiculous.

Why, because the production was done by Iommi?

Well, according to Metal Archives he plays on a couple of tracks as well. It is more upbeat however. Some songs are worth a listen, reminds me of Night Sun without the heavy use of organ...
