The Most Universally Respected Bands (among metalheads)

the hall. leave it.

Well, I went back today to give those two albums another listen. I still think "Reek" is a decent album, but really doesn't live up to what people make it out to be. The sloppiness and direction less nature of the album worked for a little while, but it got tedious after a while.

"Symphonies", on the other hand, actually suprised me. I quite enjoyed that album, and really liked the musical maturity from "Reek", while still keeping the old grind/death style intact. I don't know how I didn't catch this on my first listen through the album.

Either way, Carcass is still nothing I would go nuts over.

respected, but not really universally among metalheads. I know some metalheads who've never heard of them. (these are the same ones that think trivium is the next metallica mind you).

The 1995 2nd guitarist for Death, Bobby Koeble is friends with my father and played jazz at his wedding. I didn't like metal at the time though, I was like 5.

Swansong is a pretty decent album also, I wouldnt' say it's as good Heartwork, but it's up there with Reek

Bobby used to give guitar lessons to my best friend. He lived very close to his neighborhood in Altamonte. My friend used to ride his bike to his house to get lessons. He said he was a really cool guy. He ran into him on a plane flight a few months ago too. I take it that Bobby is very big into jam music & ska.

Yeah that's how my father met him. We used to live in Altamonte actually, now we're in Sanford. He's a nice guy, and yeah he has a funkish band called JunkieRush, they tour locally all the time. Sister says they are amazing.

Urgh,if you're gonna argue about it then their obviously not universally respected among metalheads.

Definately not Darkthrone.. that's a fucking joke. Some people don't know what universally means.

I think the inspirational bands are probably the most respected

Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Black Sabbath

Lock thread now.

I have to disagree on that one. I think it´s mainly a geographical question. I´ve heard that many people in America havent even heard of,say,Therion either. But yeah, if you consider yourself a real metalhead, you should at least have heard of Death.
