The Most Universally Respected Bands (among metalheads)

I would say Opeth, but they have gotten too "big" in the last few years. Too many people don't respect a band once other people have heard of them, or if they are considered popular at all.

I would hope that most people here respect 80's Metallica, although the same logic above applies here to a much greater extent.

Shit, I want to go to where you live. I know... 2 people that know who Opeth are. Only way I ever meet people who know who any "real" Metal bands are is when I go to Metal shows (which never sell out here, despite being in tiny venues). I need to move to where ever you're at. Maybe everyone's not so fucking predictable there...

Now on Metal message boards everyone knows who they are. I get what you were trying to say though. I'm just flabbergated that people out there really consider bands like that "sell outs". Only on the internets

Iron Maiden to me sounds too much like Elf. But I maybe haven't listened to them enough. Judas Priest has never rubbed me the right way. I Like Sabbath though. :D

King Diamond
Dark Tranquillity - noone hates this band, its ridiculous
Old In Flames
Carcass is a biggy, everyone LOVES Carcass and they SHOULD!
Megadeth

Out of those I'd say Carcass is the only band that comes close to being universally respected among metalheads.Although many don't like anything after Necroticism.

I don't like Dark T anymore...Skydancer through Damage Done...Are all good albums nothing amazing but good...And now they're redundant.

King Diamond I feel is univerally loved. Old In Flames? Everyone I know loves them From LuNAr through Clayman.
