I guess I've completely removed the memory of Marty getting back with his family , but that still feels like such a minor part of the show to really kill it for you. Maybe it was best to end at the hospital when Cohle gets healthy and he's talking on the curb. Even though it's significantly more upbeat and optimistic than at any other point in the season..
To derail, all the reasons you cite for TD s1 is I think applicable even moreso for The Wire. And it's actually why I dislike it. Cops get away with anything and they are (mostly) in it for the right things and are doing the right things. Which it then applies a lot that to the drug side world .
I never did go after season 4 of TD nor care what Nic has had to say in years, so that probably has an affect on this there.
