The Official Good Television Thread

It's not only the ending of the season, there are things peppered throughout all eight episodes. The ending hammers the final nail in the coffin though. I mean, it is the ending after all. Endings are kind of a big deal. But even then, it doesn't kill the season for me. I still really like it, and I've rewatched it a few times. I enjoy a lot of books/movies that I think have a conservative angle. Cormac McCarthy might have just been one of the most quietly conservative popular writers of the last fifty years, and his books are wicked smart.

I never finished The Wire, only saw the first two (I think) seasons. From what I've heard others say, it's more conscientious about cops being assholes. For what it's worth, I think TD S1 is conscientious about that too; I just think it doesn't follow through.

Finished both series of Top of The Lake. Pretty good overall.
Elisabeth Moss does a decent job carrying off the damaged cop. There are times in the second series she's a bit over the top but she still does a good job.
Interesting to see some other young Aussie girls pop up in the show.
Charlotte Nicado from Mythic Quest (which will be on the watch list again soon) plays the demanding "young woman on a bus"
And Liv Hewson who played Abby in Santa Clarita Diet

Funny to see the 'porn club" boys sitting in the coffee shop talking about which hooker they've fucked while at the same wearing the obligatory metal shirts. Amon Amarth, Anthrax, Pantera, even a Utopia Records shirt got a good bit of publicity, might even have been product placement. But nerdy little dweebs jacking off to porn and talking dirty about hookers in a coffee shop must sum up the Sydney metal scene!

I share similar criticisms with s1 TD. I think what sells me and most people is the performances themselves instead of necessarily amazing writing.

As for The Wire, the following two seasons are peak TV period. Case in point.

I don't agree that it's peppered throughout, Marty's family falls out once they find out he's cheating (again). There is obviously no consistent female presence for Rust. But whatever, I never really agreed that the ending betrayed the show or really bought it down so I'm not really anywhere on that point.

Wouldn't have a clue. But I recently re-watched The Young Ones and that has laughs, consistency and obviously re-watchablity so stick that one on there.

Im more a fan of the older stuff like The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, The Jack Benny Program, Gilligan's Island, Threes Company, The Barney Miller Show, The Jeffersons etc...

But from the more moden ones id have to go with Married With Children, Trailer Park Boys, Seinfeld, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Its Always Sunny, Saved By The Bell, That 70s Show, The Drew Carey Show, Becker, Wings, Dear John, My Name is Earl, The Big Bang Theory, Martin, King of Queens .... pretty sure im forgetting some too.

Would Norsemen count? If so that one would definitely be near the top of my list.
